What Is Elf on the Shelf?

“Elf on the Shelf” is a Christmas tradition that originated from a children’s book of the same name written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell. The book was first published in 2005. The story revolves around a magical scout elf sent by Santa Claus to watch over children and report their behavior during the Christmas season.

The basic premise is that the elf arrives at a household and takes up residence, typically on a shelf or another inconspicuous location. The elf is said to have the ability to move to different spots in the house each night while the family sleeps, keeping an eye on the children’s behavior. The idea is that the elf returns to the North Pole each night to provide Santa with updates on whether the children have been naughty or nice.

The reality star displayed a scene resembling “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” with a massive tub filled with “hot chocolate.” According to Kim, the elves left a mess and explained through a note that they couldn’t find mugs, prompting them to use the bathtub for their whimsical hot chocolate creation.

Kim Kardashian’s Elf on the Shelf display featured an intricate arrangement, complete with various-sized marshmallows, red and green decorations, chocolate kisses forming the word “ELF,” and a bathtub filled with brown liquid to mimic hot cocoa.
