When you think of Beyoncé, country music may not be the first genre that comes to mind. However, the music icon has just made history by becoming the first black woman to chart with a country song. But how did the pop sensation gain such an important feat? Here is how Beyoncé’s country song has entered the US 100 and does not intend to go anywhere anytime soon!

Beyoncé’s Country Song and Achievements With It

Beyoncé has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Black woman to claim the number one spot on the US charts with a country song, “Texas Hold ’Em”. This marks her ninth solo number-one hit (with four previous ones achieved as part of Destiny’s Child). It is also the first of two tracks expected to be released from Act II, the second installment in a rumored trilogy following her 2022 release, Renaissance: Act I. Despite some resistance from country radio programmers, “Texas Hold ’Em” has topped both the Hot Country Songs chart and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. This solidifies Beyoncé’s groundbreaking achievement.

The Controversy Around Beyoncé’s Country Song

Despite initial resistance from some radio stations, Beyoncé’s fans successfully petitioned one Oklahoma station to add “Texas Hold ’Em” to its rotation. This led to the song being officially promoted to country radio. This move sparked debate over whether the song belongs on country radio. This is because the radio is known for its conservatism and lack of representation of women and Black artists. However, Dolly Parton expressed support for Beyoncé’s venture into country music. She endorsed her and expressed excitement for her upcoming album on Instagram.

Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, emphasized the family’s long-standing connection to cowboy culture. She refuted doubts about Beyoncé’s authenticity in embracing country music. She recalled their annual tradition of attending rodeos and dressing in Western fashion since Beyoncé’s childhood. This highlighted their genuine ties to this culture despite misconceptions about its exclusivity to white culture.

Others on the List

Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em” secures the top spot on the chart, displacing Jack Harlow’s “Lovin On Me,” which had spent six nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1. Meanwhile, on the Billboard 200, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Vultures” maintains its position at No. 1 for the second week in a row. Kanye West’s upcoming releases, including the second volume on March 8 and the third part on April 5, are anticipated, though subject to possible delays given his history of postponements. Rapper Yeat achieves his highest chart placement yet with “2093,” reaching No. 2 on the Billboard 200, bolstered by strong streaming numbers and notable features from artists like Future, Lil Wayne, and Drake, along with a hidden feature from Donald Glover.
