Could you imagine being known as the world’s hairiest girl? This title was once held by Supatra “Nat” Sasuphan, who gained fame for her excessive hair growth due to a rare genetic condition called Ambras syndrome. However, in a recent turn of events, Natty has decided to shave her face, marking a significant change in her appearance and identity.
The World’s Hairiest Girl and Her Story
On August 5, 1999, Supatra’s family experienced something unique with the arrival of a new baby. Supatra’s parents, Sompon and Samrerng, were filled with immense joy and anticipation. However, their happiness was tempered by astonishment, apprehension, and disbelief when the doctor informed them that their newborn had unusually large amounts of hair. As they saw her in the incubator, they realized that Supatra’s hair covered nearly every inch of her body, making her appearance incredibly unique and surprising even to medical professionals in Thailand.
Later, doctors diagnosed Natty with Ambras syndrome, an exceptionally rare skin condition. This disorder is so uncommon that only approximately 50 similar cases have been documented worldwide over a significant period.
How Did the World’s Hairiest Girl Survive in This Harsh World
After Natty’s birth, when her mother was getting ready to leave the hospital, doctors hesitated to release her, worried she might not accept the child because of her rare condition. Sompon reassured them, promising her unwavering dedication to her child and expressing gratitude that Natty was part of their family.
Since her early years, Natty enjoyed the affection of her loving family. Yet, she also encountered the cruelty of strangers and peers who didn’t understand her condition, facing unkindness as she matured.
How Did She Feel About the Title?
As Natty grew up, her face remained hidden under a thick layer of hair due to her incurable Ambras syndrome. Conventional treatments like laser removal didn’t work to reduce her hair growth. At school, she faced ridicule because of her unique appearance. She had to endure cruel taunts like “wolf girl” and “monkey face” from her peers.
Despite the teasing, Natty couldn’t understand why she was being mocked. To her, she was just a regular girl with a bit more hair. She was simply accepting herself as she was, saying, “It’s the way I am.”
Where Is She Now?
Natty has come to terms with her condition, acknowledging that there is no cure for it. She has embraced the natural growth of her body hair, keeping it as it has been since birth, and only started having her face when she reached her teenage years. As she grew older, her self-esteem and self-image became more important to her, and she also found love.
Their relationship started as a friendship and evolved into a romantic partnership. Their conversations brought her happiness, and being together felt effortless, leading to a love she hadn’t foreseen: “It was a kind of love that I didn’t expect would happen to me.”
She Has Now Actually Removed the Hair
Natty has shared photos with her partner, showing her face without facial hair, leading to speculation that she might have been cured. However, her dad clarified that she chose to shave her facial hair to reveal her new look. Currently, her eyes, face, mouth, lips, and cheeks are visible, with only her forehead covered by the hair on her head.
Having found love and happiness, Natty is determined to lead a positive life and make a positive impact on society. She believes in the beauty and uniqueness of every individual and aims to inspire others to embrace their individuality and showcase their inner beauty.
