In a bizarre turn of events, a doctor recently made headlines for walking out of a surgery mid-operation, all because he was not given a cup of tea. Doctors and medical professionals are known for their dedication and commitment to patients’ well-being. However, they are also human and have their own needs and preferences. But, where can we draw the line? This doctor left mid-surgery for tea. But, it isn’t what you think!

Doctor Abandons Surgery for Tea

Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi left an operating theatre halfway through family planning surgeries on November 3 in Nagpur, India, because his colleagues did not make him a cup of tea. He had operated on four women and asked for tea while the next four were anesthetized. When staff returned without tea, he abruptly left without completing the surgeries. The hospital administration informed the district medical officer, who sent a replacement to finish the surgeries on the remaining women.

The district administration ordered an inquiry into the incident, according to NDTV. The district council’s CEO, Soumya Sharma, stated that a three-member committee will investigate the case.

What Happened?

Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi was performing scheduled family planning procedures on eight women at a local health center in Nagpur, central India. After performing surgery on four women and administering anesthesia to the remaining patients, Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi reportedly asked the hospital staff to make him a cup of tea immediately.

When the staff failed to provide the requested tea, Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi promptly left the operating theatre. He did not complete the remaining procedures, according to NDTV.

What Comes Next for the Doctor Who Left Surgery for Tea?

After authorities were informed, another doctor was sent to complete the surgeries on the remaining anesthetized women. The district administration has ordered an investigation into the incident.

Nagpur Zilla Parishad’s CEO, Soumya Sharma, stated over a phone call that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the case. Appropriate action against Dr. Bhalavi will be taken based on the committee’s report.

She emphasized that doctors abandoning critical procedures for such reasons should be held accountable under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with causing death by negligence. Appropriate action will be taken against Dr. Bhalavi based on the investigation’s findings.
