A South Carolina lawmaker is pushing to put former President Donald Trump’s face on a brand-new $250 bill.
The proposal, which has sparked both support and skepticism, raises questions about the future of U.S. currency and the ongoing influence of Trump within the Republican Party.
Could Donald Trump Be the Face of a New $250 Bill?
Rep. Joe Wilson, a staunch Trump ally, introduced the “Donald J. Trump $250 Bill Act,” which would direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design and print a new high-denomination bill featuring Trump’s portrait.
Wilson claims the bill is a response to “Bidenflation,” a term critics use to describe the inflation surge during President Joe Biden’s administration.
“Most valuable bill for the most valuable President!”

Wilson tweeted, sharing an AI-generated mockup of the proposed bill. He argued that inflation has forced Americans to carry more cash, making a higher-denomination bill necessary.
However, the proposal faces significant hurdles, including a federal law that prohibits living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency.
Legal and Logistical Challenges

The current U.S. Code explicitly states that only deceased individuals can be featured on currency, a rule designed to prevent partisan favoritism. Wilson’s bill would need to override this law, creating a one-time exception for Trump.
Even if the legislation passes, the process of introducing a new bill involves multiple government agencies, including the Treasury, the Federal Reserve, and the Secret Service, making it a complex and time-consuming endeavor.
The proposal has drawn mixed reactions. Some supporters see it as a fitting tribute to Trump’s economic policies, while critics dismiss it as a political stunt.
“Don’t spend money paying staff to draft this. It’s a waste of time & resources,” one social media user commented.
Others joked about the irony of carrying bills featuring a former president who has faced legal controversies.
A Growing Trend of Trump Tributes

Wilson’s bill is just the latest in a series of Republican efforts to honor Trump. Earlier this year, Rep. Claudia Tenney proposed making Trump’s birthday a federal holiday, while Rep.
Anna Paulina Luna introduced legislation to carve Trump’s face into Mount Rushmore. These moves reflect a broader trend within the GOP, where lawmakers compete to demonstrate their loyalty to the former president.
While the $250 Trump bill may face long odds, it underscores Trump’s enduring influence on American politics.
Whether it’s a genuine attempt to address inflation or a symbolic gesture of support, the proposal has certainly sparked a national conversation.
Donald Trump remains a polarizing figure, even in the world of currency design.
