Hollywood legend Gene Hackman’s will has sparked controversy after reports revealed that his three children were not named as beneficiaries of his $80 million estate. Instead, the entire fortune was left to his wife, Betsy Arakawa Hackman.

However, with her unexpected passing before him, questions have arisen about who will ultimately inherit his wealth.

Gene Hackman’s Passing

Gene Hackman, a renowned actor, passed away at the age of 95. His wife, Betsy Arakawa Hackman, also died around the same time. The couple was found in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on February 26, 2025. Hackman died from heart disease, with Alzheimer’s disease as a contributing factor. Gene Hackman’s Will and Beneficiaries

According to Hackman’s will, he left his entire estate, valued at approximately $80 million, to his wife, Betsy Arakawa Hackman. His three children from a previous marriage, Christopher, Elizabeth, and Leslie, were mentioned in the will but were not designated as beneficiaries.

The inheritance situation became complex because Arakawa Hackman died before Hackman. Typically, if a primary beneficiary predeceases the will’s creator, alternative beneficiaries are considered. In this case, since Hackman’s children were not named as beneficiaries, the distribution of the estate is uncertain.

Potential Outcomes for the Estate

Given the circumstances, Hackman’s children might have a claim to the estate. However, without clear instructions in the will, the matter could be subject to legal interpretation and potential disputes.

The Hackman family has sought to keep details of the deaths and the estate private. A representative for Hackman’s estate requested that autopsy reports and investigative records remain sealed to protect the family’s privacy.

The passing of Gene Hackman and his wife has led to uncertainties regarding the distribution of his estate. Moreover, the exclusion of his children as beneficiaries and the sequence of the deaths have complicated the situation. The resolution of the estate will depend on legal interpretations and potential actions by the surviving family members.
