The global balance of power is shifting fast, and the UK emerges as Russia’s target in a disturbing new warning from a British government official. Concerns over World War 3 are rising as Russia increases covert threats against the UK.

Officials say the Kremlin is ramping up attacks that fall short of open war but are designed to disrupt and destabilize British society. These include cyber warfare, sabotage, and disinformation campaigns, all of which are signs that the UK is now firmly in Moscow’s crosshairs.

One unnamed government official said to The Times:

“It’s been evident from Russia’s recent propaganda that we’re target No. 1.

If only the British state were as powerful as they claim.”

Experts say the main reason the UK emerges as Russia’s target is its unwavering support for Ukraine. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has taken a firm stance against Russia, unlike other global leaders who’ve shown hesitation. Meanwhile, U.S. policy toward Vladimir Putin has softened, making the UK a louder opponent in Moscow’s eyes.

The recent arson attack on a warehouse storing supplies for Ukraine, carried out by three men linked to Russia’s Wagner Group, was a clear signal. The UK now faces growing threats on multiple fronts, from digital strikes to possible physical sabotage.

“This wave of attacks… seems linked to the logistic support of Ukraine,” said defence analyst Tim Ripley.
“It’s classic sabotage, straight from Russia’s GRU playbook.”

Russia isn’t relying on bombs or bullets. Instead, they’re using ‘grey zone’ attacks, covert actions meant to confuse and weaken, not openly declare war. These include cyber attacks, disinformation, and espionage. A key example was the 2023 firebombing of a UK warehouse tied to aid for Ukraine.

MI5’s Sir Ken McCallum warned these kinds of acts could create “sustained mayhem on British and European streets.” Officials are urging immediate action to stop further destabilization.

According to Secretary of State John Healey, the UK suffered over 90,000 cyber attacks in just two years, many likely linked to Russia.

He told the BBC:

“Cyber attacks from Russian adversaries are happening every day.”

As the UK emerges as Russia’s target, security forces are stepping up their efforts. The government is increasing protection around key sites and using intelligence to detect threats early. Both passive defense (like securing infrastructure) and active defense (intercepting saboteurs) are being used.

More public awareness is also needed. Cyber hygiene, misinformation resistance, and reporting suspicious activities are now crucial. Officials warn that the battle may not come with missiles, but with malware, fire, and falsehoods.

The message is clear: The UK is under threat, and the new frontlines are digital, urban, and dangerously silent.
