Inside the Notorious “Hell on Earth Prison” Where Bryan Kohberger Will Serve Life Sentence for the Idaho Student Murders

Bryan Kohberger, 30, will spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security prison after pleading guilty to killing four Idaho students.
Harsh Life Inside Maximum-Security Prison
He was sentenced on July 23 for the 2022 murders of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, and Madison Mogen in Moscow, Idaho.
Kohberger originally pleaded not guilty but later accepted a deal that spared him the death penalty. In return, he gave up his right to appeal or request leniency.
He received four life sentences plus 10 extra years. He will serve them at Idaho Maximum Security Institution, a prison some have described as “hell on Earth.”
Kohberger will live in solitary confinement. He is expected to be locked in his cell 23 hours a day. Meals will be passed through a slot in the door.
It’s unclear if he will be allowed in-person visitors. Any visits would likely be virtual, conducted inside a controlled area of the prison.
NewsNation’s Brian Entin, who toured the facility, said it felt “very maximum security” and described it as sterile and isolating. “You really are just by yourself,” he added.
According to Inside Edition, Kohberger may be allowed to buy a tablet, TV, or laptop to use inside his cell.
Kohberger May Face Dangers Behind Bars
Bail bondsman Kevin Corson told Inside Edition that Kohberger could be in danger inside the prison. “He’ll have a target on his back,” Corson said, noting that crimes against women are especially condemned among inmates.
The Idaho Department of Correction says Kohberger will first go through an intake process called the Reception and Diagnostic Unit (RDU). It takes 7 to 14 days.
During this time, officials will assess his mental and physical condition to decide on his permanent housing and privileges.
A spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “We wait until a person completes RDU to determine their classification, housing placement, and privileges.”
