On October 3, 2025, Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced in federal court in New York to 50 months (just over four years) in prison after being convicted on two counts of transporting individuals to engage in prostitution. He also received a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release.

Combs will receive credit for the 13 months he already spent behind bars since his arrest in September 2024.

What He Was Convicted of

In July 2025, following a multimedia trial, a jury found Combs guilty on two counts under the Mann Act for transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious charges: racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion.

The prosecution had pushed for a sentence of over 11 years, citing the gravity of the offenses and the evidence presented. Meanwhile, Combs’s defense requested a much lighter term — 14 months — arguing for credit for time served and emphasizing mitigating factors.

The Courtroom Moments

Before sentencing, the courtroom was charged with emotion. Combs delivered a brief, tearful address: “I hate myself right now,” he said, expressing remorse and acknowledging the harm caused.

Judge Arun Subramanian, in his remarks, addressed key points:

  • He acknowledged Combs’s philanthropic work and influence but called the case’s evidence “massive.”
  • He told the two women who testified — Cassie Ventura and “Jane” — that “We heard you”.
  • The judge said that deterrence required more than the defense’s proposed minimum and rejected the 14-month term as insufficient under the circumstances.

Combs’s children also spoke, pleading for leniency and describing his evolution and contributions.

What This Means & What’s Next

  • The sentence is considerably lower than what prosecutors sought but much harsher than what the defense proposed.
  • Combs’s appeal team is expected to challenge parts of the ruling, including the sentencing rationale and possible errors.
  • The high-profile nature of the case — including public testimony, video evidence, and celebrity status — ensures ongoing attention as he prepares to begin serving his sentence.
