Influencer Arrested After Allegations of Drug-Trafficking Network

Brazilian social-media influencer Melissa Said, aged 23, has been arrested by police in Salvador, Bahia, following accusations of leading an interstate cannabis trafficking and money-laundering operation between Bahia and São Paulo.

The arrest caps a manhunt that began after raids on multiple properties linked to her network.

Authorities say Melissa, who boasts hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers, was the primary target of “Operation Erva Afetiva” (translated roughly as “weed-affectionate”), during which they executed multiple search-and-seizure actions in both Bahia and São Paulo.

Police allege she promoted cannabis use openly on her platforms, advised followers on how to transport or use the drugs, and orchestrated distribution—linking her to suppliers across states. Items seized during the raids reportedly included around 1.4 kg of marijuana (“skank”), 270 grams of hashish, digital scales, packaging materials, phones, bank cards, and vehicles.

Her investigation reportedly began in 2024 after an airport drug-possession incident.

Following her arrest, Melissa publicly denied leading a trafficking ring. She admitted to personal cannabis use but rejected claims she sold or organised large-scale distribution. “It’s a shame… no one in the world should be arrested for smoking marijuana,” she said in a statement.
