R&B singer and reality TV personality Ray J has shared a startling update about his health, claiming that doctors told him he may only have months left to live.

In a series of emotional social media videos, the 45-year-old said his heart is functioning at just about 25 % capacity and, based on medical advice, he doesn’t expect to live past 2027.

What Ray J Said About His Health

In a clip shared online this week, Ray J – born William Raymond Norwood Jr. – spoke candidly about his declining health. He explained that medical evaluations revealed severe heart damage, a condition he tied to past lifestyle choices. “2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” he said, referring to the timeline doctors shared with him. While friends in the video pushed back, telling him not to accept that prognosis, he reiterated the severity of his situation.

Ray J also posted that his heart is “only beating like 25 %,” a fraction of normal function, and thanked fans and loved ones for their prayers and support during this difficult period.

Hospitalization and Recent Health Struggles

The update comes after Ray J was hospitalized earlier this month in Las Vegas with severe pneumonia and heart pain, a situation that nearly became life-threatening. During recovery, he shared that doctors conducted various tests — including imaging and heart assessments — that revealed extensive damage and a critical cardiac condition.

He said that while he’s grateful to have survived the immediate crisis, his overall health remains fragile and unstable. Ray J described his heart’s right side as “black” and largely non-functional — a vivid illustration of how serious the condition appears to him.

His Reflection on Lifestyle and Health

Ray J openly discussed how years of substance use, including heavy alcohol consumption and prescription drug misuse, likely contributed to his heart’s deterioration. “I thought I could handle all the alcohol… all the drugs… but I couldn’t,” he said in one livestream, reflecting on choices he now believes harmed his body over time.

This sense of personal accountability was coupled with an emotional reflection on his legacy and family. He expressed reassurance that his children and ex-wife would be financially secure, and he thanked his sister, Grammy-winning singer Brandy, for helping with his medical bills and care.

Response and Public Reaction

The announcement has sparked a mix of reactions from fans and social media users. Many have expressed support and concern for Ray J’s well-being, offering prayers and encouragement. Others have reacted with skepticism, noting the dramatic nature of the claim and the ongoing public profile entanglements he’s had — including past legal and personal controversies.

Some commentators have pointed out that medical prognoses can vary and that heart conditions like these can sometimes be managed with treatments, lifestyle changes, or more advanced interventions. But for now, Ray J’s own message reflects a sense of urgency and a deeply personal reckoning with his health.
