A massive tranche of documents recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice as part of the Epstein Files Transparency Act has surfaced sensational and unverified allegations involving Bill Gates — including draft email claims that he contracted a sexually transmitted infection (STI) after encounters with “Russian girls” and tried to secretly obtain antibiotics for his then-wife, Melinda French Gates.

The Microsoft co-founder has strongly denied the claims as “absurd and completely false,” emphasising that mention in the documents does not equate to proof of wrongdoing.

What the Epstein Files Claim

Among the millions of pages released by the DOJ are draft emails dated July 18, 2013, that were found in Epstein’s correspondence and allegedly written in his voice. One such draft — labelled with the subject line “bill” — contains graphic claims that Gates had sexual encounters with “Russian girls,” contracted a sexually transmitted disease (STD), and sought antibiotics to treat it. It further alleges that he asked for the messages about the STD to be deleted and wanted the medicine given surreptitiously to his then-wife, Melinda French Gates.

The documents also appear to discuss Gates’ previous association with Epstein, stemming from meetings in the early 2010s tied to philanthropic and fundraising initiatives. However, they do not include evidence showing any criminal conduct by Gates. Authorities have noted that the emails in question were drafts found in Epstein’s own archives and that there is no indication Gates ever sent, received, or acknowledged them.

Gates’ Response and Denials

Gates’ representatives have categorically denied the allegations. A spokesperson described the claims as “absolutely absurd and completely false,” stating they reflect Jeffrey Epstein’s attempts to manipulate and defame Gates after their limited interactions ended. The spokesperson has emphasised that the emails were likely written by Epstein himself or were misattributed drafts, and that there is no factual basis or corroboration to support these assertions.

Gates has previously acknowledged that meeting Epstein was a serious mistake and that he regrets associating with the disgraced financier, but has insisted that the nature of their encounters was strictly related to discussions about philanthropy — not personal or illicit conduct.

About the Epstein Files Release

The DOJ’s release comprises more than 3 million pages of documents, including emails, images, and videos connected to the long-running FBI and federal investigations into Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal enterprises and his associates. The files also feature references to other public figures such as Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and former President Bill Clinton — though inclusion in the files does not automatically mean criminal involvement or verified misconduct.

Officials have emphasised that the sheer volume of material means unverified or uncorroborated claims — including draft emails or sensational notes — are part of the public record but should be interpreted cautiously. The DOJ has redacted names where necessary to protect victims and third parties, and noted that some released materials may reflect inaccurate, defamatory, or speculative content submitted to investigators over the years.

Context and Public Reaction

The claims have prompted widespread discussion and social media speculation, with users debating what the presence of such emails means and how to interpret them. Experts and commentators have stressed that records or draft claims in Epstein’s files are not evidence of guilt without independent verification. Legal analysts also note that the Department of Justice’s transparency release was intended to make public raw investigative material, not to adjudicate or validate every assertion contained within it.

Some public discourse has focused on the implications of such allegations for Gates’ public reputation and philanthropic legacy, while others caution against sensationalising material that amounts to unverified draft communications from a known manipulator and convicted sex offender.
