The U.S. Department of Justice’s release of over 3 million pages of previously sealed Jeffrey Epstein documents has thrust former Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, back into international headlines.

The trove contains emails, photos, and correspondence linked to Epstein and Mountbatten-Windsor that contradict earlier claims he cut ties with the disgraced financier and raise fresh questions about his judgment and connections.

What’s in the Newly Released Epstein Files

Included among the recently published material are email exchanges and photos involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, reflecting communication with Epstein after the financier’s 2008 conviction on sex offences. The images show Andrew in undated settings with an unidentified woman, with the subject matter and context unclear and heavily redacted by authorities to protect privacy.

A key 2010 email exchange shows Epstein offering to introduce the former royal to a “clever, beautiful” 26-year-old Russian woman, to which Andrew responded that he would be “delighted to see her,” despite having publicly claimed to sever ties following Epstein’s conviction.

The files also suggest Andrew invited Epstein to dine at Buckingham Palace in September 2010 — a claim that raises questions about whether the two remained on social terms well after Epstein’s legal troubles. Again, there’s no public verification of whether that dinner took place.

Andrew’s association with Epstein has long been controversial. In 2021, Virginia Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit alleging that Epstein trafficked her to have sex with Andrew when she was 17 — claims he denied. That lawsuit was settled in 2022 without either side going to trial, and Andrew has consistently rejected allegations of sexual misconduct.

Despite claims he ended contact after 2008, the newly surfaced 2010 and later correspondence suggests ongoing communication, contradicting past statements and placing renewed focus on the nature and depth of the relationship.

The public release is part of broader transparency efforts under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which has compelled the DOJ to publish millions of pages of internal investigative material related to Epstein and his co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Political and Public Reactions

The disclosures have prompted calls in both the United Kingdom and the United States for Andrew to cooperate more fully with authorities. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called on him to testify before U.S. congressional committees about his knowledge of Epstein’s activities following the latest revelations, underscoring continued political pressure.

While the DOJ has published vast amounts of material, officials have emphasised that inclusion in the files does not constitute evidence of criminal wrongdoing, and many references to public figures—including extensive mentions of former U.S. President Donald Trump—are unverified or contain uncorroborated claims.

Nonetheless, the sheer scope of the files and the details involving Mountbatten-Windsor’s correspondence with Epstein inject new momentum into debates about accountability, transparency, and how figures connected with Epstein navigated their ties after his 2008 conviction and leading up to his 2019 arrest.
