While “Friends” star Matthew Perry has his own amount of fans and supporters, others seem to think differently. Comedian Kevin Brennan has stirred up a storm of controversy and backlash with his shockingly insensitive remarks following the unexpected passing of “Friends” star Matthew Perry. Brennan, known for his edgy humor, appeared to make light of Matthew Perry’s death on social media, sparking widespread outrage. Here is what he had to say.

Who Is Kevin Brennan?

Kevin Brennan, the brother of Neal Brennan, who co-created “Chappelle’s Show,” is known for his habit of disparaging his brother and other accomplished comedians on his podcast. TMZ was the first to report on Brennan’s offensive tweets. This pointed out that he had a relatively modest following on Twitter, with about 5,900 followers. By the following Monday, it appeared that he had gained a couple of hundred more followers.

The Tweets

Reactions to Brennan’s tweets were predictably negative. Many people expressed their astonishment at the mindset of someone who would post such callous comments. They deemed his behavior sad and mean, especially considering Matthew Perry’s well-documented struggles with addiction. Some individuals called for him to be blacklisted and never hired as a writer again, given his condescending remarks about a deceased actor. The general sentiment was one of outrage and condemnation for his insensitivity.

The Ex ‘SNL’ Writer’s Words for Matthew Perry’s Death

Comedian Kevin Brennan has caused outrage by celebrating the sudden death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry. He wrote insensitive messages, including one that made light of Perry’s cause of death, saying, “DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA.” When asked about why he found it funny, Brennan replied, “Because it’s not very deep.” He later defended his remarks after TMZ published a story about them, further fueling the controversy.

The Reactions to Brennan’s Tweets

Despite the public outrage, Brennan appeared to revel in the controversy. He even went as far as to ask if he was trending on social media. One X user reacted strongly to Brennan’s lack of empathy, labeling him a “p–ck” and expressing hope that he never had to experience the insidious disease of addiction that Perry struggled with. Brennan’s response to this comment was to repost it and simply comment, “Sounds like fun.”

Another user conveyed their inability to comprehend the mindset of someone posting such offensive content. The user stated: “I wish you well because you must be sick.” Brennan’s reply was a nonchalant “Thank you.”

When a third user suggested that people would similarly mock Brennan when his time came, Brennan humorously retorted, “I’ll probably forget.” Brennan’s responses only added to the controversy and further alienated him from those who found his comments callous and inappropriate.

The backlash was immense, to which Brennan responded with: “Am I trending yet?”

Matthew Perry’s Death

While comedian Kevin Brennan faced backlash for his insensitive comments about Matthew Perry’s death, the television show “Saturday Night Live” paid tribute to the late “Friends” actor shortly after his passing. During the broadcast, a black and white photo of Perry and his name were displayed on the screen. Perry, aged 54, was tragically discovered dead in the jacuzzi of his residence in the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles just after 4 p.m. on a Saturday.

Law enforcement sources informed TMZ that they responded to an address after a 911 call reporting a cardiac arrest, although it’s unclear who made the call. The sources also mentioned that no illicit drugs were discovered at the scene, and there is no suspicion of foul play.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that an autopsy for Matthew Perry has been completed. However, additional testing, including toxicology, is required, which may take several months to determine the cause of death. As of now, the cause of death is listed as “deferred.”
