How much can your mother really love you? While a mother’s love is always deemed unconditional and never-ending, this mother had a different opinion. And while she claims to have loved her two songs with no trouble, she believes it is time for them to move on. This is why this Italian mother wants her sons’ eviction as soon as possible!

Italian Mother Wants Sons’ Eviction, But Why?

In the northern Italian city of Pavia, a 75-year-old woman successfully obtained a court order to have her two sons, aged 40 and 42, removed from her house. The court documents, filed at the Tribunal of Pavia district court, revealed that the sons were named by their mother as “parasites.” This was due to their alleged failure to contribute financially or assist with household responsibilities.

Despite being employed, the sons had been living in the family apartment without actively participating in the upkeep of the home. The court’s decision made their eviction final, marking a legal intervention in the complex family dynamic.

The Judge Sided With the Mother

In a recent court ruling, Judge Simona Caterbi supported the retired mother in Pavia, Italy. She was separated from her sons’ father. The judge sided with the mother. She ordered her two adult sons, referred to as “bamboccioni” or big babies, to vacate her property by December 18. The mother, who uses her pension for household expenses, argued that her sons were not helping financially. Judge Caterbi said that no law gives adult children the right to remain in their parent’s homes. Especially against the parents’ wishes based solely on family ties. She mentioned:

“There is no provision in the legislation which attributes to the adult child the unconditional right to remain in the home exclusively owned by the parents, against their will and by the family bond alone.”

The Sons’ Claims and Reply

In response to the lawsuit, the two sons called lawyers. They mentioned that Italian law forces parents to care for their children for as long as required. This argument was mentioned in the local newspaper La Provincia Pavese. Judge Simona Caterbi acknowledged the law that parents bear responsibility for their children’s support. However, in her ruling, she reasoned that while the initial claim for the sons’ residence could be considered valid under the obligation of parental maintenance, it became untenable given the sons’ ages—both being over 40.

Judge Caterbi underscored that, once a certain age is surpassed, adult children cannot reasonably anticipate their parents to sustain the maintenance obligation indefinitely. Consequently, the court upheld the mother’s right to have her sons vacate the property. She cited the unfairness of expecting parental support beyond limits deemed reasonable for individuals of their age. The ruling thus balanced legal obligations with the practicalities of familial responsibility in the context of the sons’ adulthood.
