After years of legal battles and speculation, the high-stakes trial reached a dramatic conclusion on Tuesday. Did A$AP Rocky (born Rakim Mayers) fire a gun at his former friend and collaborator, Terell Ephron (A$AP Relli), in a heated Hollywood altercation? Or was there more to the story than met the eye? How did the case unravel? Please continue reading to find out the courtroom verdict about hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky!

Allegations and Charges

The charges stemmed from a November 2021 altercation in Hollywood involving Rocky and his former friend and collaborator A$AP Relli. Relli alleged that Rocky shot at him during a heated confrontation, grazing his knuckles. However, the defense argued that Rocky had fired a prop gun loaded with blanks, which he carried for security after acquiring it on a music video set. The jury ultimately found reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case, leading to Rocky’s acquittal.

An Emotional Courtroom Verdict for A$AP Rocky

As the clerk read the not-guilty verdict, the courtroom erupted in cheers and applause. Rocky, visibly emotional, jumped from the defense table into the gallery, where Rihanna sat alongside his mother and sister. The couple embraced and sobbed, surrounded by family and supporters. “Thank y’all for saving my life,” Rocky told the jurors as they exited the courtroom.

Rihanna, who had attended portions of the trial and even brought the couple’s two young sons—2-year-old RZA Athelston Mayers and 1-year-old Riot Rose Mayers—to closing arguments, was a pillar of support throughout the proceedings. Her presence in the courtroom, though initially uncertain, became a symbol of solidarity as the trial unfolded.

Key Arguments and Evidence

The prosecution’s case relied heavily on Relli’s testimony, which described a confrontation near a Hollywood hotel parking garage. Relli claimed that Rocky fired at him multiple times, with one shot grazing his hand. Surveillance footage captured the sound of gunshots and a brief scuffle, but the visuals were blurry and inconclusive.

Rocky’s defense team, led by attorney Joe Tacopina, painted Relli as a “pathological liar” who sought to exploit the incident for financial gain. Witnesses for the defense testified that Rocky had fired a prop gun as a warning to protect a friend during the altercation. The defense also emphasized that no gun was ever recovered, and police found no evidence of a discharged firearm at the scene.

The jury was instructed to consider whether Rocky acted in self-defense or if the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. In the end, the jurors sided with the defense, delivering a swift verdict that spared Rocky a potential 24-year prison sentence.

Rihanna’s Reaction After A$AP Rocky’s Courtroom Verdict

Following the verdict, Rihanna took to Instagram to express her gratitude, posting a message that read, “The Glory belongs to God and God alone. Thankful, humbled by his mercy!” The post reflected the couple’s shared relief and joy after a grueling legal battle.

Outside the courtroom, after the verdict, Tacopina said “Rocky did not want her here, I will tell you that. He wanted to shield her from this. Wild horses couldn’t keep her away.”

He also added, “There was a moment when before we heard the words from the clerk, he didn’t know if he was going to be spending the next two decades in jail or going home.”

A$AP Rocky and A$AP Relli: A Friendship Turned Sour

The trial highlighted the fractured relationship between Rocky and Relli, who had been friends since high school and were part of the A$AP Mob collective. Their falling out, fueled by Rocky’s rise to fame, culminated in the 2021 altercation. Relli has since filed a civil lawsuit against Rocky, seeking damages for the incident. However, the not-guilty verdict in the criminal trial may weaken his civil case.

“This whole experience has been crazy for the past four years,” Rocky said outside the courthouse. “I’m thankful and blessed to be here right now, to be a free man talking to y’all.”

Rocky is set to headline the Rolling Loud music festival in Los Angeles in March and will serve as a celebrity co-chair at the Met Gala in May alongside LeBron James and Pharrell Williams.
