American Idol Star Found Dead With Spouse in Suspected Killing

On July 14, Los Angeles police carried out a welfare check at the Encino home of longtime American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye (70) and her husband, musician Thomas Deluca (70).
Responding after concerned loved ones hadn’t heard from the couple, officers found both victims in separate rooms, each suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Intruder Stole In, Stayed Silent
Investigators believe a 22-year-old suspect, later identified as Raymond Boodarian, gained entry during a possible burglary on July 10. They suspect he had been hiding in the home for days, waiting until the couple returned, leading to a deadly confrontation.

Surveillance footage shows Boodarian scaling the secured fence and entering through an unlocked door. A shattered glass sliding door and a blood trail signaled the path to the victims.
Prompt Arrest & Investigation
Police arrested Boodarian without incident on July 16, with a joint task force involving LAPD and the FBI. The suspect allegedly had no known connection to the couple, and authorities believe this was a random break-in that escalated violently. Investigations are ongoing to fully determine the motive and any prior association.
Legacy of a Music Industry Pillar
Robin Kaye began her music supervision career in Nashville, later becoming a key figure at American Idol from 2009 to 2023. She worked on over 200 episodes and earned awards for her work. Off camera, she founded SyncroniCity, representing top artists. Her husband, Thomas Deluca, was a respected songwriter and performing musician who released an album as recently as 2022.

In response, American Idol issued a heartfelt statement: Kaye was a “cornerstone” of their family, “truly loved and respected,” and will be deeply missed.
Killed in Their Own Sanctuary
Their $4.5 million home, fortified with high walls and security measures, had experienced attempted break-ins before. Neighbors reported seeing someone by the fence, and the couple had even discussed installing cameras. Despite this, the suspect slipped in through an unlocked door—a chilling reminder that no system is infallible.
Entertainment Community Mourns
The deaths stunned colleagues and fans alike. Kaye was credited with shaping the emotional impact of countless performances on American Idol, while Deluca contributed richly to the music world. Their personal and professional legacy will be remembered not only for its creative force but also for the grim mystery that surrounds their final moments.
