In a much-anticipated move, producers StudioCanal and Monumental Pictures have unveiled the first international teaser trailer for “Back to Black.” The upcoming music biopic delves into the life of the late Amy Winehouse. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, known for her work on “Nowhere Boy” and “50 Shades of Grey,” the film stars Marisa Abela as the iconic British soul sensation.

The biopic is made with the full support of The Amy Winehouse Estate, Universal Music Group, and Sony Music Publishing. It promises to feature many of Winehouse’s hit songs, including the titular track, “Rehab,” “Valerie,” etc. Winehouse, in her short career, sold over 30 million records worldwide but struggled with addiction and intrusive media attention. She tragically passed away on July 23, 2011, at the age of 27, from an accidental alcohol overdose.

The Amy Winehouse biopic cast includes Jack O’Connell as Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil. Eddie Marsan and Juliet Cowan play Amy’s parents, Mitch and Janis Winehouse, and Lesley Manville as Amy’s grandmother, Cynthia. Abela, who plays Amy is a rising British talent known for her role in HBO’s “Industry.” Critics are already praising her transformative performance as Winehouse in last summer’s blockbuster, “Barbie.”

The “Back to Black” trailer portrays Abela as Winehouse in her signature beehive hairdo and heavy black eyeliner.
