At its much-hyped “Awe Dropping” event, Apple introduced the iPhone Air, its new flagship for minimalists: measuring just 5.6 mm thin and weighing around 165 g, this is the slimmest iPhone ever made.

Packing a 6.5-inch ProMotion OLED display with 120 Hz refresh, 3,000-nit brightness, and powered by the new A19 Pro chip, it delivers Pro-level performance in a sleek form. Featuring Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and the new C1x and N1 modems, the device promises connectivity that’s both fast and future-ready. Apple claims up to 27 hours of video playback—or 40 hours with the optional MagSafe battery accessory.

Retailing at $999 for the 256 GB variant, it skips physical SIMs entirely in favor of eSIM only, and arrives in four finishes: Sky Blue, Light Gold, Cloud White, and Space Black. Pre-orders begin September 12, with availability starting September 19.

Samsung’s Snarky Comeback to the New iPhone

Almost immediately after the launch, Samsung reignited its rivalry with Apple—but through humor. The company resurrected an old tweet on X, mocking Apple’s continued absence in the foldable market with the hashtag #iCant (“Let us know when it folds”).

The quip rapidly went viral, becoming a rallying cry in a digital feud between #TeamApple and #TeamSamsung, with supporters on both sides weighing in on camera performance, design innovation, and hardware progress.

Why This Moment Matters

Apple’s iPhone Air represents a bold design shift—departing from Pro models’ thickness to appeal directly to users craving portability without sacrificing performance. Its eSIM-only design and light build underscore Apple’s push toward minimalist tech, even at a premium price.

Meanwhile, Samsung’s snarky retort via #iCant encapsulates a modern era of smartphone rivalry—one played out in real time on social media, where meme-level jabs can echo louder than product spec sheets. It raises questions: Is Apple leading with innovation, or lagging behind trends? Will this alpha design hold long-term appeal, or will Samsung’s foldables metaphorically—and literally—overtake?
