2000 – First Meetup

Beyoncé and Jay-Z first met when she was 18 during the 2000 MTV Spring Break festival. They sat next to each other on a plane to Cancun, and Jay-Z referenced this moment in his 2018 song “Everything Is Love,” expressing how fate had brought them together. Beyoncé has not disclosed many details about their early relationship.

2001 – First Date

After more than a year of friendship and constant phone conversations, Beyoncé and Jay-Z decided to give their romantic relationship a try. Their first official date took place at the celebrity-favorite restaurant Nobu. Jay-Z brought a friend along to dinner, which he later referred to as his “first foolish mistake” in the lyrics of his song “Everything Is Love.”

2002 – First Track Together

Despite Jay-Z’s initial mistake of bringing a male friend to their first date, it did not negatively affect their relationship. They started collaborating early on in their romance and released their first track together in 2002 titled “’03 Bonnie & Clyde.”

2003 – “Crazy in Love” Drops

After their initial collaboration, Beyoncé and Jay-Z released “Crazy In Love.” The song’s lyrics expressed their deep affection for each other, earning them a Grammy award the following year.

2004 – First Public Award Show Appearance

Beyoncé and Jay-Z publicly confirmed their relationship by making their red carpet-debut as a couple at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards.

2008 – Secret Wedding

Beyoncé and Jay-Z surprised the world with their super-secret wedding in 2008. They didn’t even announce their engagement beforehand. The couple was seen picking up a marriage license in New York in April 2008, and it was later confirmed that they got married on April 4, 2008.

2011 – Most Iconic Pregnancy Announcement Ever

In 2011, Beyoncé revealed her pregnancy during her performance at the VMA’s, excitingly sharing the news with the audience. However, it was later disclosed that this wasn’t her first pregnancy, as she had experienced a miscarriage before. Beyoncé opened up about this previous loss in her 2013 documentary, “Life Is But a Dream.”

2012 – The Birth of Blue Ivy Carter

Beyoncé and Jay-Z expanded their family when they welcomed their daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, on January 7, 2012.

2013 – “Drunk in Love” Drops

On December 17, 2013, Beyoncé released her self-titled album, featuring a collaboration with her husband Jay-Z on the hit track “Drunk In Love.” The couple performed the steamy song together on the Grammy stage in 2014.

2014 – The Mysterious Elevator Fight

Following the Met Gala on May 5, 2014, footage emerged showing Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, physically confronting Jay-Z in an elevator amidst rumors of infidelity. The family later issued a statement addressing the incident, emphasizing their commitment to working through it together. They acknowledged their respective roles in the matter, apologized to each other, and affirmed their unity as a family. The statement also refuted claims of Solange being intoxicated or behaving erratically that evening. Ultimately, they declared their love for each other and expressed a desire to move past the incident, urging others to do the same.

2017 – Next Pregnancy Announcement Feat. The Most Iconic Photoshoot Ever

In 2017, Beyoncé made an iconic pregnancy announcement on Instagram, revealing that she and Jay-Z were expecting twins. She expressed gratitude for the blessings and shared their joy with fans, signing off as “The Carters.”

June, 2017 – The Birth of Rumi and Sir Carter

On June 13, 2017, Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed twins, a daughter named Rumi Carter and a son named Sir Carter, expanding their family.

2017 – Jay-Z Admits He Cheated on Beyoncé

In a late 2017 interview with the New York Times, Jay-Z opened up about his personal life, marriage, and struggles with emotional well-being. He discussed how survival mode can lead to shutting down emotions and difficulties in connecting with others, including his wife Beyoncé. When asked if this inability to connect was due to his feelings about himself, Jay-Z acknowledged it, mentioning that it runs deep and can lead to infidelity and other issues in relationships.

2018 – Beyoncé and Jay-Z Release an Album Together

In the summer of 2022, Beyoncé released her seventh studio album, “Renaissance,” under Parkwood Entertainment and Colombia Records. Dedicated to and inspired by various family members, including her husband Jay-Z and their children, Beyoncé described him as her “muse.” She revealed on Instagram that working on the album during the COVID-19 pandemic provided her with a sense of freedom and adventure amid challenging times. She received accolades for Best Dance/Electronic Album for “Renaissance,” Best R&B Song for “Cuff It,” Best Dance-Electronic Music Recording for “Break My Soul,” and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Plastic off the Sofa.” With these wins, Beyoncé became the artist with the most Grammy awards ever, totaling 32 wins.
