What Britney Spears Had to Say
The singer-songwriter also rejected claims that her biography, ‘The Woman In Me,’ was published without her approval. She stated on Instagram that such reports were far from the truth and expressed gratitude for the love and blessings she receives, referencing the positive news about her.
The singer’s biography, ‘The Woman In Me,’ has become a massive success, accumulating 1.1 million copies in its first week of publication. Additionally, the singer shared a picture of the Italian Renaissance painting ‘Salome Bearing the Head of John the Baptist’ on social media.
Britney Spears and Her Conservatorship Issue
In 2008, Britney Spears was placed under an involuntary conservatorship, overseen by her father, James Spears, and attorney Andrew M. Wallet, lasting until November 2021. The conservatorship was initially triggered by alleged mental health concerns during a psychiatric hold. However, the temporary conservatorship was extended and made permanent against Spears’s objections. In 2019, a hiatus in her career due to her father’s health issues brought attention to the conservatorship’s details. This revealed Spears’s dissatisfaction.
The #FreeBritney movement gained traction in 2020, drawing international attention. In June 2021, Spears publicly spoke against the conservatorship in court. She accused her father, family, and management of abuse, coercion, and conflict of interest. Judge Brenda Penny granted her the right to choose her attorney, Mathew Rosengart. Then, on September 29, she suspended Jamie Spears, replacing him with accountant John Zabel.
The Status of the Conservatorship
The conservatorship was terminated on November 12, 2021, following a reversal by Jamie Spears, who sought to end it allegedly to avoid discovery and deposition. The case elevated Spears to a symbol of conservatorship law reform and human rights, influencing legislative efforts on state and federal levels. Revelations of her mistreatment led to a reevaluation of her legacy, particularly considering the media’s role in shaping her public image during her highly publicized breakdown.
