The Albanian pop star from Kosovo faces yet another lawsuit. This time, you have guessed it, it’s her top hit “Levitating”… again!

Dua Lipa rose to fame in 2017 with her debut album which reached its peak at number 3 in the UK charts. Ever since her successful debut singles, the pop sensation keeps breaking new records and topping charts to this day.

Dua Lipa Copyright Lawsuit

The lawsuit is focused on the singer’s top-charting hit titled “Levitating”. The track first dropped in 2020 as one of the main songs of Dua Lipa’s “Future Nostalgia” album. The album broke three world records including “The Most Streamed Album in a Day” record in both the US and UK.

However, with this major success, you are likely to face a downfall as well. Although it is one of Dua’s most famous songs to date, “Levitating” doesn’t seem as original as it did on the first listen. The singer is now facing a copyright claim regarding the single.

Musician Bosko Kante has filed a legal action, allegedly claiming that Dua Lipa used a recording that was created with his talk box. The musician claims the recording was done in various remixes of the song and Lipa did not obtain the rights to the actual song. The legal action was filed in Los Angeles, and Bosko is asking for more than $20 million in damages.

A talk box is essentially a device that lets musicians and singers modify an instrument’s sound by adjusting the frequency and adding their speech to the original sound.

Dua Lipa apparently already asked for permission to use the talk box on the original recording, but it is alleged that she reused the work for remixes without asking. This copyright infringement would include Lipa’s remix with Madonna and Missy Elliot, as well as the one featuring DaBaby.

Bosko’s team has mentioned that they’ve tried reaching a mutual agreement with the pop star, but her management refused to discuss the matter.

Not Dua’s First Time

💡Did you know? This is Dua’s third copyright law infringement suit over the same song. Previously, Artikal Sound System claimed she copied the song’s hook from their 2017 reggae hit “Live Your Life,” but the case was later dismissed.

Additionally, songwriters L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer accused her of plagiarizing melodies from the songs “Wiggle and Giggle All Night” (1979) and “Don Diablo” (1980). The lawsuit filed by Brown and Linzer is still ongoing and the results are unknown as of now.

What do you think? Do the songs sound similar to you? Is the lawsuit rightfully filed? Let us know down below!
