The children were members of Chœur d’Enfants d’Île-de-France, a prestigious French youth choir touring internationally. They were performing at St. Paul Parish in Cambridge, Massachusetts, when the unexpected medical emergency occurred.

Witnesses reported a “strange odour” in the air shortly before the children began showing signs of illness. According to Acting Fire Chief Thomas Cahill, one child seated on the church steps showed seizure-like symptoms, which then rapidly spread to seven others.

“None of the children had felt unwell prior to the performance,” Cahill told reporters. About 70 people attended the concert, but only these eight children were affected.

The Cambridge Fire Department was first on scene and treated the children for what they classified as non-life-threatening conditions. They were all transported to area hospitals for further observation. The hazmat team swept the building using advanced air-sampling equipment but detected no hazardous substances, including carbon monoxide.

“This was somewhat unusual,” Chief Cahill said. “It was a routine medical call that quickly escalated into something far more serious. Not common.”

The Fire Department also addressed community concern via their official Facebook page. They confirmed no danger to the other attendees and stated that all remaining guests safely left with chaperones.

While the incident has prompted concern, officials continue investigating what might have triggered the symptoms. Eight children suffer seizures with no confirmed medical explanation, making the event even more alarming for parents and local authorities.
