Newly released documents from the U.S. Department of Justice’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein have renewed scrutiny of his social relationships after his 2008 criminal conviction.

Among the trove of emails and correspondence is a 2010 message from Eva Andersson-Dubin — a longtime associate and former girlfriend of Epstein — inviting him to visit her home at a time when her 15-year-old daughter, Celina, was expected to have friends over. The email stands out because it was sent two years after Epstein served jail time and was a registered sex offender.

The 2010 Invitation Email to Epstein

The document at the center of this new attention is a 2010 email from Eva Andersson-Dubin to Jeffrey Epstein, inviting him to visit her home. In the message, Andersson-Dubin wrote: “Come and visit next week, Celina will have 5 friends over.” At that time, Celina, her daughter with billionaire hedge-fund manager Glenn Dubin, was believed to be around 15 years old.

Epstein had already pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting a minor for prostitution in Florida and served a brief jail sentence; he was also registered as a sex offender. The fact that the invite came well after his conviction has caused concern among observers who point to the risks of inviting a convicted predator into settings that involve minors.

Who Is Eva Andersson-Dubin?

Eva Andersson-Dubin, born in Sweden, was a Ford model and Miss Sweden in 1980 and later attended UCLA medical school. She dated Epstein in the 1980s before marrying Glenn Dubin in 1994. Despite their romantic relationship ending, she and Epstein remained in contact for decades.

According to earlier reporting and court records, Andersson-Dubin and her husband welcomed Epstein back into their social circle even after his 2008 conviction. In 2009, she wrote to Epstein’s probation officer saying she was “100 % comfortable with Jeffrey Epstein around (her) children,” a statement that attracted scrutiny when it resurfaced alongside the new email.

Context Within the Epstein File Release

The email was uncovered as part of a broader release of thousands of pages of previously sealed documents under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which requires the Department of Justice to publish investigative materials related to Epstein’s crimes. These records include emails, correspondence, and other files illustrating his social and business networks.

Many of these materials do not on their own prove criminal activity by people mentioned in them, and the Justice Department has cautioned that being mentioned does not equate to involvement in wrongdoing. However, communications like the Andersson-Dubin invitation have drawn fresh attention precisely because they appear to show Epstein being welcomed into environments involving minors after his conviction.

Public Reaction and Questions Raised

The resurfacing of this email has sparked public reaction and questions about how Epstein continued to maintain access to social circles and families after his conviction as a sex offender. Critics argue that the correspondence shows a pattern of individuals close to him normalising his presence despite the known risks. Supporters or defenders of Andersson-Dubin have noted that the email alone does not show anything improper happened; it simply shows an invitation and nothing about actual contact with minors that is corroborated by independent evidence.

Andersson-Dubin has long disputed claims that she was aware of Epstein’s broader conduct, stating after his 2019 arrest that his alleged behaviors were “completely counter to the person she knew.” She testified in the 2021 trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, asserting she did not recall inappropriate encounters involving Epstein.
