Although most of us prefer to stay away from occults, others are less scared and are more prone to exploring the world of the unknown. And this is all thanks to scary movies like “Ouija” and “Paranormal Activity.” And although those movies are fake, ouija boards aren’t. That is exactly why this exorcist is speaking up against Ouija boards and showing everyone why it is probably best to stay as far away as possible from them.
What Are Ouija Boards?
An Ouija board, also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a flat board marked with letters of the alphabet, numbers 0-9, and other symbols. It is often used as a tool for communication with spirits or the supernatural. The board is accompanied by a planchette. This is a small triangular or heart-shaped device with a glass center, which is placed on the board’s surface.
The idea behind an Ouija board is that participants place their fingertips on the planchette. It is believed to move across the board, spelling out words or providing answers to questions. The movement is thought to be guided by spirits or supernatural forces.
What Did the Priest Say About Ouija Boards?
Fr. Dan Reehil, an exorcist priest from the Diocese of Nashville, has warned against viewing Ouija boards. He is also warning against attempts to communicate with the dead as innocent fun. Reehil describes them as spiritually dangerous practices.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Fr. Reehil emphasized the existence of a supernatural realm, including angels, demons, spirits, and souls. He asserts that these entities can have a tangible impact on individuals’ lives.
Drawing on his training in exorcism at Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum in Rome in 2018, Fr. Reehil explained that he was named as the exorcist of the Diocese of Nashville that same year. He said that an exorcist is a priest chosen and appointed by a bishop to engage in the office of deliverance ministry, with exorcism being a specific form of prayer employed by the Catholic Church to counteract the influence of the devil.
Why Is the Excorcist Speaking Up Against Ouija Boards?
Fr. Dan Reehil explains that the Catholic Church recognizes two forms of exorcisms: “major” and “minor.” Major exorcisms are reserved for individuals demonstrably possessed by demons and can only be performed by priests explicitly permitted by the bishop. Minor exorcisms, on the other hand, are associated with sacraments and blessings.
Reehil highlights demonologists’ distinction between three levels of demonic incursion: temptation, obsession (or oppression), and possession. Temptation is a common experience for everyone, while obsession involves demons tormenting individuals physically, spiritually, mentally, or emotionally. Possession, the most well-known level, occurs when demons take physical possession of a person’s body and use its faculties.
Fr. Reehil warns that taking part in occult practices, such as trying to contact the dead with an Ouija board, can open individuals up to demonic activity, showing the potential spiritual dangers associated with such actions.
