What were you achieving when you were 11? Were you still studying at school? Maybe you were hanging out with your friends after school? No matter what proud moments you have had before, this young boy definitely just beat you to it! An 11-year-old boy named Davyon Johnson saved a choking classmate and later helped an elderly woman escape from a burning home in Oklahoma on December 9. Despite his young age, the heroic acts by this 11-year-old boy were extraordinary, but his mother, Latoya Johnson, stated that he has always displayed remarkable maturity and kindness, suggesting that his heroic actions were a natural reflection of his true character.

The Heroic Acts by an 11-Year-Old Boy

Davyon did not only save one person, he actually saved two, on the same day. A student accidentally swallowed a water bottle cap while trying to open it with his mouth. He began choking and entered the classroom where Davyon Johnson was present. Davyon quickly performed the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the bottle cap and saving the choking student. Later that day, on his way home from school, Davyon rescued a disabled woman who was exiting her burning house.

Davyon Johnson, after his heroic actions earlier in the day, noticed a disabled woman on her porch and assisted her in getting into her truck to leave. As he was helping her, a fire broke out at the front of the woman’s house. Davyon mentioned that he had learned the Heimlich maneuver from a YouTube tutorial.

How Davyon Got Recognized for His Heroic Acts

The Muskogee Public Schools Board of Education honored sixth-grader Davyon Johnson at a board meeting for his remarkable actions. He performed the Heimlich maneuver to save a classmate from choking on December 9 and also assisted a woman from her burning house on the same day. Davyon received a certificate from both the Muskogee Police Department and the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office, designating him as an honorary member of their forces.

Davyon Johnson’s mother mentioned that he was initially modest about receiving recognition for his heroic actions. However, he received several honors, including an honorary certificate from the police department, the title of an honorary deputy from the sheriff’s department, and a heroism award from the school board. Davyon also received additional honors for his actions.

Other Achievements Await

The city of Muskogee, Oklahoma, with around 38,000 residents and located about 50 miles southeast of Tulsa, declared December 10 as “Davyon Johnson Day” in honor of his heroic actions. Muskogee Mayor Marlon J. Coleman announced that next week, Davyon will be presented with the keys to his hometown. Mayor Coleman commended Davyon for embodying the true spirit of the community, displaying heroism and selflessness as part of his natural character, which made the city proud to have such exceptional young individuals in their community.
