House Republicans plan to approve Trump’s tax and policy bill before the July 4 holiday. The sweeping legislation includes permanent tax cuts, border security funding, military spending, and major changes to welfare programs.
Democrats strongly oppose it, warning it will hurt working families. If passed, the bill will mark one of Trump’s biggest legislative wins ahead of the election season.
What’s Inside Trump’s Tax and Policy Bill

The bill stretches across 887 pages and aims to permanently extend the 2017 Trump-era tax cuts. It also introduces new deductions for tips and overtime pay, raises the child tax credit, and temporarily lifts the SALT deduction cap.
On spending, it includes $150 billion for border enforcement and ICE, $350 billion for the military, and funding cuts to clean energy programs. It imposes strict work requirements on Medicaid and SNAP recipients and increases the federal debt ceiling by $5 trillion.
Fierce Debate Surrounds House Vote

Republican leadership pushed hard to rally support within their ranks, especially from members of the House Freedom Caucus. After intense internal negotiations, the House narrowly passed the bill on July 3 with a 218–214 vote.
Two Republicans joined all Democrats in voting against it. Democrats tried to delay the vote with a marathon 8-hour speech by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who called it a threat to working families and a giveaway to the wealthy.
Trump’s Tax and Policy Bill Faces Warnings from Experts

Critics warn that Trump’s tax and policy bill will raise deficits and cut essential safety net programs. The Congressional Budget Office estimates it could add $3.3 trillion to the national debt and leave up to 12 million Americans without Medicaid or food aid by 2034.
Supporters argue the reforms will simplify the tax code, boost economic growth, and prioritize national security. A July 4 signing ceremony by President Trump is expected once the bill reaches his desk.
