Jennifer Garner, the beloved actress known for her roles in films such as “13 Going on 30” and “Dallas Buyers Club,” is mourning the loss of her father at the age of 85. Jennifer Garner’s Father Dies at 85

Jennifer Garner announced via Instagram that her father, William John Garner, passed away peacefully at the age of 85. She shared that they were with him, singing “Amazing Grace” as he departed. Garner acknowledged the absence of tragedy in his passing due to his long, healthy life but recognized the inevitability of grief.

Her Instagram post read:

“My dad passed peacefully Saturday afternoon. We were with him, singing Amazing Grace as he left us (did we carry him across or scare him away— valid question.) While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85-year-old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners.

Today is for gratitude.

We are grateful for Dad’s gentle demeanor and quiet strength. For how he teased with a mischievous smile, and for the way he invented the role of all-in, ever-patient girl dad. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership, and faith.

We extend our gratitude to the medical communities of Charleston Area Medical Center and City of Hope. Your care extended Dad’s life and gave him time to be in his favorite spots— surrounded by daughters and grandchildren, cheering for his beloved Aggies, captaining a boat, and— most of all—next to his wife of 59 years, our Mom.

There is so much to say about my dad— my sisters and I will never be done talking about how wonderful he was, so bear with us— but for today I share these memories with my appreciation for the kind and brilliant man, father, and grandfather he was, as well as the loving legacy he left behind.”

Jennifer Garner Also Shared Capitol One Ad

Besides the loving pictures, Jennifer also shared a clip from a 2016 Capital One ad where she recounted her father’s reaction to her collaboration with the company. Jennifer recounted a story about her father’s pride in her association with Capital One. When he called the company to ask for the “Jennifer Garner card,” the representative jokingly asked if he was related to her. Proudly, he confirmed and then appeared in the ad with Jennifer, delivering the company’s tagline, “What’s in your wallet?”.

Jennifer shared a tender moment with her father in the ad, laughing and snuggling against him while praising his delivery with a heartfelt “Nice job, Dad.”
