This collaboration is definitely more than just a comeback; it’s a statement of resilience, strength, and determination.
The Collaboration Announcement
Both Keke and Usher were quick to announce their collaboration on their respective Instagram accounts. The caption in Keke’s post read:
“Usher! I remember when I was 12 and auditioned for “In The Mix” 🤣 You have been killing it all my life. As a true lover of the arts, your talent and craftsmanship are a rare combination that I aspire to achieve as a performer. You are a living legend who is worthy of awe! Thank you for encouraging me and seeing me as the entertainer I am. I know I’m a gUrL but when I watched your videos, I never wanted to be the girl in them, I wanted to be YOU. Thank you for making a dream come true.”
The music video for their new song collaboration “Boyfriend”, was published on the 17th of August and has since garnered attention for its release timing and lyrics. Some of the lines that are currently going viral are Usher singing: “Somebody said that your boyfriend’s lookin’ for me, well, he should know I’m pretty easy to find / Just look for me wherever he sees you.” Fans were quick to notice that this was a direct hit at Darius Jackson.
Why This Collaboration is Important
When Keke Palmer attended an Usher concert in Las Vegas recently, it should have been a night of enjoyment and celebration. However, her boyfriend, and the father of her child, Darius Jackson (known as Darius Daulton online), decided to publicly criticize her clothing choice in a regrettable turn of events.
Palmer, who had given birth to her first child in February, wearing a striking black, sheer Givenchy dress that revealed a black bodysuit underneath. While many would have seen this as a stylish and confident choice, Jackson, unfortunately, saw it differently.
Taking to Twitter, Jackson retweeted a video of Usher singing to Palmer at the concert but couldn’t resist making a comment about her attire. He wrote, “It’s the outfit tho… You a mom.” This tweet, implying that mothers should adhere to a certain dress code, immediately garnered attention and raised eyebrows.
What’s more, Jackson wasn’t content with just one controversial tweet. When he began receiving criticism for his remarks, he decided to continue with even harsher critiques. In another tweet, he defended his tweet, stating, “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals for what I believe. I rest my case.“
The internet was quick to bash Jackson and comfort Keke during the situation. That’s exactly why this song release is so important. Keke getting the chance to perform with Usher is definitely a strong comeback!
