Man Stabbed While Protecting Commuters at SF Train Station

On July 26, Colden Kimber—a 28-year-old cyclist and student—was fatally stabbed while shielding women and children from a man who was reportedly yelling and acting aggressively on a Muni train platform in San Francisco.

Kimber stepped between the stranger and the group, including two young kids, in an effort to protect them. He was suddenly stabbed in the neck. Though emergency responders tried to save him, he died shortly after being transported to the hospital.

A Kind Soul Lost Too Soon

Kimber, who worked at a local bike shop and studied kinesiology, was known for his kindness, his passion for cycling, and his willingness to help others.

Friends described him as gentle, thoughtful, and always ready to lend a hand—especially to kids. On that day, his instinct to protect turned fatal.

The suspect, 29-year-old Sean Collins, was found nearby, still holding the knife and covered in blood.

He has since been arrested and charged with murder, child endangerment, and use of a deadly weapon.

Collins is scheduled to be arraigned in mid-August. Authorities say the attack appeared unprovoked.
