Are you surprised? Well, it is known that Barbie can be anything and everything she wants to be! And this includes the producer of a new Sims live-action movie. Have you ever imagined what it would be like if your favorite video game, The Sims, was turned into an actual movie? Well, it seems like your dreams might soon become a reality as Margot Robbie is reportedly working on just that! Here is what we know so far.

What Is The Sims?

The game features avatars that can have different personalities, skills, and relationships. Moreover, they carry out everyday tasks like cooking and decorating homes. It’s all about setting goals and achieving aspirations, which might include building families. Since its debut in 2000, the game has evolved from its suburban roots to include diverse settings and themes like vacations, showbiz, dating, high school drama, and even fantastical elements like magic and vampires. There’s no shortage of characters to interact with, but notable families like the Goths and Landgraabs stand out in the game’s universe.

The Sims and Barbie share similarities in that they both lack a fixed narrative. In The Sims, players control characters as they go about their daily lives, while Barbie, as a toy, has no inherent story and can assume various careers, controlled by children playing with her. Both offer open-ended play experiences where players can shape the characters’ lives and activities according to their imagination.

The New Sims Live-Action Movie

“The Sims,” a popular computer game, is being adapted into a film. Kate Herron, known for directing the first season of Marvel’s “Loki,” will helm the project and co-write the screenplay with Briony Redman. The film is attracting attention from studios and streamers. Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, along with Roy Lee, Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment, and Electronic Arts, the game’s publisher, are involved in producing the adaptation.

Lee, known for the successful Lego movies, is currently releasing the horror film “Late Night With the Devil.” Similarly, Herron, recognized for directing Marvel’s “Loki,” is drawn to genre-defying material. LuckyChap, following the box office success of “Barbie” and “Saltburn,” is a highly sought-after production company. Their upcoming projects include “My Old Ass,” which garnered attention at the Sundance Film Festival and sold to MGM Amazon.

LuckyChap’s Impact

“I, Tonya” marked the debut production of LuckyChap, founded by Margot Robbie, her husband Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr. The company stemmed from Robbie’s aspiration to create more empowering roles for women in the film industry. The movie, a success at the box office, garnered three Oscar nominations, including one for Robbie’s portrayal of Tonya Harding. Allison Janney won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Harding’s mother.

Following Margot Robbie’s breakout performance as Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad” (2016), plans for a solo film featuring her as Quinn were quickly developed. “Birds of Prey,” released in 2020 and produced by LuckyChap, was a result of this initiative. Robbie advocated for an R-rated girl gang film, emphasizing Harley’s need for companionship and interaction with others. She expressed this vision in a pitch, highlighting the importance of Harley being part of a group rather than a standalone character.
