Musk Rekindles Bromance With President Trump

Elon Musk and Donald Trump have had a rocky relationship — sometimes close allies, sometimes bitter rivals. But recent interactions suggest the two are reigniting their once-tight bond. Is this a genuine comeback or just another strategic alliance?
The Backstory: From Best Buds to Bitter Feud
It wasn’t long ago that Musk was practically Trump’s wingman. When Trump took office, Musk pushed for a role and ended up leading a quirky-sounding but powerful government unit called DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency).
Their relationship soured when Musk openly slammed Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” — calling it a threat to fiscal discipline — and accused him of backing big-spending policies. Musk even floated the idea of a third party. In return, Trump threatened to pull federal contracts from Musk’s businesses.
So … What’s Changed?
Lately, though, things seem to be thawing. Reports say Musk and Trump were spotted together again publicly, signaling a possible rapprochement. Musk has also expressed affection for Trump, calling him a “friend” and suggesting they agree 80% of the time.

In interviews, Musk doubled down on praise: he’s said he “loves” Trump and defends him against media attacks. After stepping down from DOGE, Musk didn’t leave the scene entirely — he said he’ll remain involved as an adviser when Trump wants him.
Why This Reconnection Matters — For Better or Worse
- Politics + Power Play: Their alliance has always been strategic. Musk’s tech empire and Trump’s political machine could still serve each other.
- Governing Influence: Musk’s previous role in government gave him a unique platform — and if he’s staying connected, it could impact policy again.
- Public Perception: A “re-bromance” plays well in headlines — but it also raises questions about who’s actually calling the shots in this duo.
