Who Was O.J. Simpson?

Orenthal James Simpson, known as O.J. Simpson, began his career as a standout football player, winning the Heisman Trophy at USC and setting records with the San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills. Moreover, he also ventured into acting during his time at USC, appearing in TV shows like “Medical Center” before transitioning to professional football. Throughout his NFL career, Simpson appeared in several films including “The Klansman,” “The Cassandra Crossing,” and “The Towering Inferno,” as well as the miniseries “Roots.”

Following his football career, O.J. Simpson starred in three “Naked Gun” movies and the comedy “Back to the Beach.” Additionally, he completed a two-hour pilot for the adventure series “Frogmen,” which was halted abruptly due to his arrest.

O.J. Simpson Found Dead at His Apartment

O.J. Simpson, the former football champion and actor acquitted in a highly publicized trial for the murder of his ex-wife and her friend, has passed away from cancer at the age of 76. Additionally, he was found dead at his home in Las Vegas.

On April 10th, O.J. Simpson’s family announced on his official X account that he passed away after battling cancer. Moreover, he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. The family requested privacy and grace during this time of transition.

What Was O.J. Simpson Accused of?

On June 12, 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson, O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife, and her friend Ronald Goldman were found murdered outside her Brentwood condo. O.J. Simpson, who had a history of domestic violence with Nicole, became a person of interest. Moreover, charges were filed against him, but instead of surrendering, he sparked a media frenzy by attempting to flee in his white Ford Bronco, leading to a slow-speed chase with police on June 17, which was televised and watched by approximately 95 million people.

The highly publicized trial of O.J. Simpson ended with him being acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. However, in 1997, Goldman’s family filed a civil suit against Simpson, and he was found liable for wrongful death and battery against Goldman, as well as battery against Nicole. Additionally, he was ordered to pay $33.5 million in damages.

Following his acquittal in the murder trial, O.J. Simpson served nearly nine years in prison for robbery, kidnapping, and related charges stemming from a sports memorabilia incident in Las Vegas. Moreover, he was released in 2017.
