Original ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’s Cast Reunite Over 30 Years After Movie’s Release

The Hillard siblings had a family reunion! In a heartwarming reunion, original Mrs. Doubtfire child star cast Lisa Jakub, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson came together for a group photo over 30 years after the release of the beloved 1993 family comedy.

Sharing the joyous moment on social media, Lisa Jakub, who portrayed the eldest Hillard sibling Lydia, posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “The sisters had so much fun hanging out with the brothers. @marawilson and @matthewlawrence still feel like my siblings — even 30 years after filming Mrs. Doubtfire.”

Adding to the sentiment, Jakub wrote on a similar post, “We had a little reunion. 🥰 30 years later and my Mrs. Doubtfire family still feels like family.”

Mara Wilson, who played Natalie Hillard in the film, also shared the same photo, expressing her joy at the reunion, “So funny that the same week I went to San Francisco, I got to reunite with my Doubtfire siblings!”

“It’s always a joy to see @lisa.jakub and @matthewlawrence, and always so much fun to be on @officialbrotherlylovepod,” she added, hinting at a possible appearance on the Lawrence brothers’ podcast.

The reunion photo included not only Wilson, Jakub, and Lawrence but also Matthew Lawrence’s real-life brothers, Andrew Lawrence and Joey Lawrence, making it a true family affair.

Mrs. Doubtfire, directed by Chris Columbus and based on Anne Fine’s 1987 novel Alias Madame Doubtfire, won the Oscar for Best Makeup and inspired a Broadway musical adaptation in 2021. The film tells the story of a recently divorced father, played by the late Robin Williams, who dresses in disguise as a nanny to spend time with his children.

The cast of the film has reunited in the past, sharing fond memories of working together and with Williams, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 63.

Plans for a Prequel

During the film’s 30th-anniversary celebrations in November 2021, director Chris Columbus revealed that he and Williams had discussed a potential sequel before the actor’s passing.

“We had a script that was written, and it was the last time I saw Robin,” Columbus revealed in an interview with Business Insider. “I went to his house, and we sat down and talked about it, and the script was really strong.”

“But then Robin passed away, so there will never be a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire,” he added.
