Passengers Tackle Teenager After Suspicious Behavior
On March 6, crew and passengers tackled a teenager at Avalon Airport, Australia, after allegedly breaching a security fence and boarding a flight with a gun. Victoria Police were called to the airport around 2:20 p.m. after the male entered the commercial flight armed.

A 17-year-old boy was detained by crew and passengers after allegedly breaching a security fence. He also accessed the tarmac before boarding the flight, according to police.
Police found two bags and a vehicle belonging to the boy, and the Bomb Response Unit was called to assist with the bags as a safety precaution.
The teenager remains in custody and will be interviewed by police, authorities confirmed.
The Boy Was Tackled After People Noticed a Firearm
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that the boy boarded a Jetstar flight before being tackled by passengers. According to The Guardian, three passengers detained him until police arrived.
Victoria Police Superintendent Michael Reid stated that as the teen approached the plane and climbed the front stairs, passengers noticed he was carrying a firearm. Superintendent Michael Reid said at least three passengers overpowered the teen, and shortly after, police arrived and took him into custody.
Police confirmed that no one was injured during the incident and stated that while the investigation is ongoing, there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Suspicious Throughout it All
The teen, from Victoria, was dressed in hi-vis clothing similar to the airport ground crew. Barry Clark, the first passenger to tackle and disarm him, told ABC Radio Melbourne that he saw the boy being questioned by a flight attendant.

Barry Clark described how the teen, dressed as a worker, became agitated and revealed a shotgun. Fearing gunfire, Clark attempted to disarm him, threw the gun down the stairs, and restrained the teen until police arrived. Clark added that the teen had other equipment on him, leaving him uncertain of his full intentions.

In a photo shared by ABC, the teen was seen lying on the ground while being restrained by other passengers. The outlet reported that the boy is expected to be charged with both federal and state offenses. However, police have clarified that they are not treating the incident as a terror-related case.
In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, Jetstar Airways confirmed that they are cooperating with police and airport authorities as they investigate a security incident that took place earlier at Avalon Airport. The airline emphasized its commitment to assisting in the ongoing investigation.
Jetstar Airways’ statement also emphasized that passenger and crew safety is their top priority, confirming no injuries were reported. They expressed gratitude to the passengers who helped the crew manage the distressing situation and ensure everyone’s safety.
