Sandra Bullock’s Partner Passes Away From ALS

Sandra Bullock’s ALS partner Bryan Randall passed away on Saturday, August 5th. His family notified the media that the 57-year-old had passed away after three long years of suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

The couple first met, when Randall was tasked to photograph Bullock’s son Louis for his birthday back in 2015. They made their relationship public later that year by appearing at Jennifer Aniston’s wedding together.

The Family Speaks Up

Randall’s family has reached out to PEOPLE Magazine and clarified the following:

“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS. Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.”

“We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours,” they continued.

“At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan.”

Sandra Bullock’s sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado also spoke out by posting a picture of Bryan. She captioned it with:

“I am convinced that Bry has found the best fishing spot in heaven and is already casting his lure into rushing rivers teaming with salmon. ALS is a cruel disease but there is some comfort in knowing he had the best of caretakers in my amazing sister and the band of nurses she assembled who helped her look after him in their home. Rest in peace, Bryan.”

She ended the post by asking people to spread awareness for ALS and donate to those in need. “In lieu of flowers, please donate to ALS Association and Massachusetts General Hospital.”

The Couple’s Interesting Relationship

Sandra Bullock openly discussed the issue of marriage in 2021 and opened up about her beliefs:

“I found the love of my life. We share two beautiful children, three children, his older daughter. It’s the best thing ever. I don’t wanna say do it like I do it, but I don’t need a paper to be a devoted partner and devoted mother. I don’t need to be told to be ever present in the hardest of times. I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.”

What is ALS?

ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that causes muscle weakness and lowers the physical functions of the body. The cause of ALS is still unknown, and treatment is said to help but not cure the disease. Some early signs of the illness include weak limbs, clumsiness, difficulty swallowing, and even muscle cramps.

The life expectancy of the disease might differ, however, it is believed to be around two to three years. It’s important to mention that this can vary and some cases have been said to reach 10 years as well.

The Ice Bucket Challenge, also known as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity where a person pours a bucket of ice water over their head, often filmed and shared on social media. Its purpose is to raise awareness and funds for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called motor neuron disease or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Co-founded by Pat Quinn and Pete Frates, the challenge went viral in the summer of 2014. Participants often donated to organizations like the ALS Association in the US or the Motor Neurone Disease Association in the UK.
