Sean Diddy Video Assault

Sean “Diddy” Combs issued a public video apology on Sunday after CNN released surveillance footage from 2016 showing him physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.

The video, taken at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, captures Combs grabbing, shoving, dragging, and kicking Ventura.

“My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions,” Sean Diddy stated in a video posted on Instagram. He expressed deep regret, saying he was “disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.” Combs also revealed that he sought professional help through therapy and rehab and asked for mercy and grace from God. “I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to being a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”

Combs had previously denied Ventura’s allegations of assault, which were part of a federal lawsuit filed by Ventura in November 2023. The lawsuit was settled shortly after being filed, with details of the settlement remaining undisclosed.

Ventura’s Attorney Criticizes Combs’ Video Apology

Meredith Firetog, an attorney for Ventura, responded to Combs’ apology, criticizing it as self-centered. “Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt,” Firetog said. She noted that Combs had previously denied the allegations and suggested that his victims were seeking financial gain. Firetog emphasized that Combs’ apology seemed disingenuous, only coming after the video evidence was made public.

The video (watch it here), verified by CNN, shows Ventura walking to an elevator when Combs, wrapped in a towel, runs after her, grabbing her by the neck and throwing her to the floor. He then kicks her twice and drags her by her sweatshirt before walking away. Ventura is seen standing up, gathering her belongings, and picking up a phone on the hallway wall. Combs returns, appears to shove her and throws an object at her before walking away again.

Prosecutors Unable to Pursue Charges Against Sean Diddy’s Assault

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office acknowledged the disturbing nature of the video but stated that it could not prosecute Combs due to the statute of limitations. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed awareness of the video but does not have an open investigation.

Ventura’s lawsuit detailed a pattern of abuse, alleging Combs physically and sexually assaulted her over the course of their decade-long relationship, which began when she was 19. The suit claimed Combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the security footage following the incident.

Combs has faced multiple civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct and other illegal activities. Authorities conducted searches at his homes in California and Florida as part of a federal investigation into human trafficking, related to the allegations in the lawsuits.

Attorney Douglas Wigdor, also representing Ventura, praised her courage in coming forward. “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs,” he said.
