In the ever-evolving world of fashion and personal style, trends often emerge unexpectedly from different corners of the globe, captivating audiences with their unique charm. One such trend that has been making waves worldwide, is the “New Color Analysis Craze.” Color analysis, which first gained popularity in the 1980s, has been revitalized and reinvented in South Korea. This is all thanks to the digital age and the influence of social media. It is now making its way into the rest of the world as well!

What is Color Analysis?

Color Analysis (or Seasonal Color Analysis) is a method for identifying the shades that complement your unique features. By evaluating your overall look, including the hues of your eyes, hair, and skin, you’ll be categorized into one of twelve distinct color seasons. Each color season corresponds to a tailored color palette, thoughtfully curated to enhance your natural complexion.

Brief History of Color Analysis

In the 1980s, companies like Colour Me Beautiful and House of Colour thrived by evaluating people’s ideal color palettes based on their skin, hair, and eye tones. They offered consultations, published best-selling books, and trained consultants to help clients identify which colors made them look their best and which to avoid. This concept, known as color season analysis, had its peak during that era. However, it has recently experienced a resurgence, with a new generation discovering it through platforms like TikTok.

Susanne Williams, a color consultant in Australia, has noticed a shift in her clientele. While she used to primarily serve women who had their colors analyzed in the 80s and wanted an update, she’s now seeing younger clients in their late teens and early 20s as well. Williams appreciates the influx of new clients but remains skeptical about the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR) filters in determining one’s ideal color palette. She believes that natural light and physical fabric swatches are essential for accurate color analysis, as online filters can often provide inaccurate results, potentially leading people to make costly fashion mistakes.

The Three Color Types

In the Color Analysis world, you will fall into one of the three main categories:

  1. Fabulous Color – The color that looks best on you.
  2. Universal Color – The color that looks okay on you.
  3. Wrong Color – The color that looks bad on you.

Do Colors Really Matter?

Discovering your seasonal color palette can improve your understanding of which colors complement you best and which new shades to incorporate into your wardrobe. It also offers insight into why certain colors may not suit you. Seasonal color analysis serves as a valuable starting point for creating your own personalized color palette.

While you can expand and refine this palette to make it uniquely yours, it also equips you with the knowledge to confidently select colors beyond your palette by recognizing your undertones and preferred hues. Rather than limiting, it establishes a solid foundation for you to build upon.
