Dacre Montgomery

This mother gave $10,000 to meet her dream actor, turns out she literally threw that money in the garbage! A recent Catfish video is going viral as a woman claims she was contacting Dacre Montgomery and was giving him money to help him out.

To freshen up your memory a little, Dacre Montgomery is an Australian actor who is best known for his role as Billy Hargrove in “Stranger Things”. The heartthrob character (who, spoiler alert, gets possessed by Vecna), became a fan favorite, and the actor was praised for the delivery.

The Catfish Episode

A recent story from YouTube’s “Catfished” show has caught attention. It’s about McKayla from Kentucky, who believed she was talking to someone named Dacre Montgomery, aged 28.

McKayla first thought she might be chatting with a famous person like Johnny Depp. But the person said they were Dacre Montgomery, who conveniently was one of her favorite actors. She met this person on an online forum, and they quickly got along well. However, McKayla says she was cautious until “Dacre” did things to prove they were who they claimed to be.

McKayla even got a divorce from her ex, with whom she has a daughter, to make her relationship with the person she thought was Montgomery work. This “Montgomery” said he was in a bad relationship with a girlfriend named Liv Pollock and needed help. McKayla ended up sending money because “Montgomery” said Pollock was keeping tabs on his spending through their shared bank account.

McKayla Spent $10,000 on Montgomery

McKala said, “I initially offered a small amount of help here and there,” but things escalated quickly. She ended up giving $10,000 in gift cards to the person she thought was Montgomery.

She explained that “Montgomery” did things to prove his identity, like mentioning a specific detail about the show “Stranger Things” before it was released. This made her believe he was genuine.

The Outcome

The Catfished YouTube channel, which helps people find lost loved ones and verify online identities, proved to McKayla that the person she was talking to wasn’t really Dacre.

They labeled her catfish as a “romance scammer”. The term describes someone who invests a lot of time in researching an individual to exploit their weaknesses. Not only that but to also build a connection before trying to get money from them.

McKayla defended herself against those who might wonder how she fell for the scam, saying that love can lead to irrational actions, especially if you’ve experienced trauma. She explained that if you fear abandonment, strive to please others, and are codependent, scammers can take advantage of you.
