A high school in Welshpool, Wales, became the scene of a classroom disaster after teacher Alice Ashton allegedly showed up intoxicated and spiraled into chaotic behavior. The 31-year-old was supposed to teach a lesson on alcohol awareness. Instead, students said she drank from a water bottle that smelled like liquor, cursed at them, and told one to “shut up” before calling them “little s‑ts.”

If that wasn’t odd enough, she then reportedly cranked up loud music and led the class in a Macarena dance. No, this wasn’t some unhinged school TikTok challenge—it was a real class, and students were left stunned.

What Students Described

Several teens reported that Ashton was acting strange from the start. She allegedly played the music on her phone, danced around the room, and completely abandoned the curriculum. One student said she even waved her middle finger in their face. Others noted she kept chugging from her Evian bottle, which reeked of alcohol.

Despite Ashton’s denials in official hearings—where she claimed she didn’t curse or sing—video footage backed the students’ accounts. She was described as behaving erratically, leaving her post at the front of the class, and creating what one panel later called “a mini rave.”

The Fallout: Banned from Teaching

Following an investigation by the Education Workforce Council, Ashton was permanently removed from the teaching register in Wales. The panel said her behavior was “unacceptable” and showed “no insight or remorse.” Adding to the concerns was a previous drink-driving conviction in 2023, which had already landed her with a community service sentence and driving ban.

The council ruled she had failed to maintain professional boundaries and had breached the trust of students, colleagues, and the school. Though she can apply to teach again in two years, she’s currently banned indefinitely.

Reddit Weighs In

Online, the story quickly went viral. Redditors couldn’t believe the absurdity of the situation. One person joked, “Only in Britain would a teacher mix booze and the Macarena in one lesson.” Another commented, “It’s giving substitute teacher energy—but make it unhinged.”

While some found the scenario bizarrely funny, most agreed that being intoxicated and verbally abusive in a classroom is a clear red flag, no matter how catchy the dance moves might be.

A Bigger Issue at Hand?

Although this case stands out due to its surreal elements, it taps into deeper concerns. Teaching is a high-pressure profession, and without proper support, some educators clearly struggle to cope. However, incidents like this cross the line—what should have been an informative session on substance abuse turned into a cautionary tale of its own.

Ashton’s case is now a reminder that classrooms should always be safe environments—not places where students are insulted, confused, or turned into unwilling backup dancers.
