Teacher Jailed After Serving Students Sperm-Laced Cupcakes

A former Louisiana middle school teacher, Cynthia Perkins, has been sentenced to decades behind bars after pleading guilty to a series of child sex crimes, including the shocking admission that she served cupcakes laced with her ex-husband’s semen to students in her classroom.

Prosecutors called the offenses “horrific crimes,” and the case has drawn widespread attention due to the severity of the allegations and the long sentence imposed.

Details of the Crimes and Plea Deal

Perkins, 36 at the time of her plea, admitted in court to second-degree rape, production of child pornography, and mingling harmful substances in exchange for a plea deal. As part of that deal, she will also testify against her ex-husband, Dennis Perkins, a former SWAT commander in the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, who faces his own trial on dozens of child sex crime counts.

Investigators say the couple’s home was searched in October 2019, where authorities found evidence, including photographs and other material tied to child exploitation. Cynthia resigned from her teaching position soon after the arrest, and Dennis was fired from law enforcement.

The Cupcake Incident

One of the most disturbing aspects of the case was the admission that Cynthia laced cupcakes with her ex-husband’s semen and served them to school-aged children in her classroom at Westside Junior High School in Walker, Louisiana. Prosecutors described this as part of a broader pattern of criminal conduct involving minors.

In negotiating her plea deal, Perkins agreed to certain facts around these offenses, including assisting in sexual assaults and other serious violations involving juveniles.

Sentencing and Prison Term

On sentencing, Perkins was ordered to serve 40 years to 41 years at hard labor without the benefit of probation or parole, a term that reflects the severity of the crimes she admitted to. She will also be required to register as a lifetime sex offender upon release and has waived her right to appeal under the plea agreement.

In court, she issued an apology to her family, former friends, former coworkers, students, victims, and the community before the sentence was handed down, though the nature of the crimes has left deep scars.

Ex-Husband’s Case and Broader Legal Actions

Dennis Perkins, 44, has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial on multiple charges, including rape, sexual battery of a child under 13, video voyeurism, and child pornography counts related to the broader investigation into the couple’s conduct.

A civil lawsuit was also filed against the Livingston Parish School Board, alleging the board failed to protect students by allowing homemade food in the school and negligent hiring/supervision — claims that underscore the shock and outrage surrounding this case.
