These Twins Were Born in Different Years. But, How?

It’s not uncommon for twins to be born minutes apart, but what happens when those minutes turn into hours, or even days?

For one set of twin sisters, their birthdays are not just different dates, but different years as well. But, how was it possible for these twins to be born in different years?

Two Twins Were Born in Different Years

Kali Jo Scott, a resident of Denton, Texas, shared her unique birth experience with Fox 4’s KDFW-TV. She and her partner welcomed twin babies at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, despite the fact that they were born just minutes apart, they were born in different years. Kali Jo was admitted to the hospital on New Year’s Eve, a week before her due date, and delivered the twins via cesarean section.

Kali Jo Scott unexpectedly ended one year and began another with her twins’ births. The first twin, Annie Jo, a girl, arrived at 11:55 pm on December 31st. Only minutes later, at 12:01 am on January 1st, Kali welcomed her second child, Effie Rose. Notably, Effie Rose became the first baby born in the hospital in 2023.

What Did the Couple Have to Say?

Kali and Cliff Scott, the parents, acknowledged the possibility of their twins having different birthdays but hadn’t anticipated it actually occurring. They had jokingly entertained the idea considering the holiday season but were surprised when it became a reality.

The couple expressed their joy at their children being born on different days. Kali found it hilarious and exciting, emphasizing that each twin now has their own special day. Cliff echoed this sentiment, stating that they each get their own day. Kali also pointed out how having separate birthdays will highlight their twins’ individual identities, emphasizing that even though they’re fraternal, they’re unique individuals. She mentioned how one twin will always have the excitement of New Year’s Eve, while the other will kick off the new year on New Year’s Day.

How Did the Other Family Members React?

Kali shared that both her and Cliff’s families find it exciting and unique that their kids were born in different years. While Cliff’s grandmother had hoped for a traditional same-day birthday, she’s still very pleased with the situation, reflecting the overall positive reaction from their loved ones.

Kali mentioned a joke made by their friends about the potential tax implications of their twins’ birthdays. They teased about the couple only getting one tax deduction for the previous year. However, Kali seemed unperturbed by this, indicating that she was perfectly okay with the situation.
