Trump Places $50M Bounty on Leader Behind Narco‑Terror Ties

The Trump administration has dramatically increased the reward for information that leads to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to $50 million.
Attorney General Pam Bondi made the announcement, citing Maduro’s long-standing leadership of the Cartel de los Soles and ties to criminal networks that smuggle drugs into the U.S.
This steep increase—lifting the previous $25 million bounty—marks a major escalation in pressure on the Venezuelan leader. U.S. authorities accuse him of collaborating with groups like Tren de Aragua and the Sinaloa Cartel, and noted a seizure of 30 tons of cocaine linked to his network.
Legal Alibi and Context
Maduro has faced multiple indictments since 2020, including charges of narco‑terrorism and conspiring to import cocaine into the U.S.
His administration has been under scrutiny internationally, with disputes over the legitimacy of his 2024 reelection and questions about Venezuela’s democratic institutions.
Despite these legal efforts, he remains in power, prompting the U.S. to leverage this high-dollar bounty as both a political and law enforcement tool.
Seized Assets and Global Pressures
Officials also highlighted the seizure of more than $700 million in assets tied to Maduro, including private jets and real estate.
Supporters of the move say it is a justified measure in the face of sustained criminal activity.
Maduro, however, dismissed the announcement as political theater, with Venezuela’s Foreign Minister condemning the award as a baseless propaganda effort.
Why the Surge Matters
At $50 million, this bounty exceeds the reward once offered for Osama bin Laden—underlining the U.S. government’s view of Maduro as a major international threat tied to both narcotics and terrorism.

The symbolic weight of this action sends a strong message: no leader stands above accountability, regardless of their political position or global alliances.
