It is yet again “All Eyez on Me” as it is finally revealed who murdered Tupac Shakur. After 27 years of waiting and reading multiple conspiracy theories, the Las Vegas police department finally has an answer to one of the biggest mysteries in pop culture. This is a pivotal moment in history, as many assumptions have been made about Tupac’s death and whether he is dead to begin with. This surely closes the chapter in peace.
News Surrounding The Tupac Shakur Murder Case
Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis has been indicted by a grand jury in Las Vegas on charges of murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. Davis, who is now 60 years old, was arrested in Las Vegas, and his wife’s home in Henderson was searched earlier as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have portrayed Davis as the mastermind behind a plot to kill Shakur in retaliation for an attack on his nephew. Davis has claimed to have been present at the crime scene, stating that he was in the front seat of the white Cadillac that pulled up next to Shakur’s car when the fatal shots were fired from the back seat. Tupac Shakur was shot four times and died six days later.
Tupac Shakur Murder Case: Motive Behind the Murder
Jason Johansson, the police department’s homicide lieutenant, stated that the murder of Tupac Shakur was a “retaliatory” attack stemming from a conflict between two rival gangs based in Compton, California. Shakur and Marion “Suge” Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records, were associated with the Mob Piru gang, while Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis was linked to the Southside Compton Crips, according to Johansson.
Shakur was last seen in Las Vegas. The rapper planned to attend a Mike Tyson boxing match at the MGM Grand Hotel. Members of the Southside Compton Crips, including Davis and his nephew Orlando Anderson, also attended the event.
What Happened the Night of the Murder?
“As both groups were leaving the fight, members of Death Row Records encountered Orlando Anderson near an elevator bank inside the MGM and initiated a physical altercation with him,” Johansson revealed while presenting hotel surveillance footage of the incident. Shakur and Knight were visible among those involved in the altercation.
Johansson emphasized that this incident ultimately led to the retaliatory shooting and death of Tupac Shakur.
Both groups, one led by Shakur and the other by Davis, left the hotel after the altercation. Shakur and his crew headed to a post-fight after-party at a local nightclub. When Davis learned of the attack on Orlando Anderson, he began to formulate a plan to acquire a firearm. Additionally, he tried to seek retaliation against Suge Knight and Tupac Shakur. This news is according to Jason Johansson, the police department’s homicide lieutenant.
After obtaining a gun from a “close associate,” Davis, accompanied by Terrence Brown, Deandre Smith, and Anderson, got into a white Cadillac. Johansson explained that at some point during the ride in the white Cadillac, Davis handed the obtained gun to the passengers in the rear seat of the vehicle. The indictment did not specify which of the two men in the back seat, Anderson or Smith pulled the trigger.
The group located the black BMW carrying Shakur and Knight, opened fire on them through the vehicle’s window, and quickly fled the scene. All of this is according to authorities.
Long Overdue
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill notified:
“For 27 years, the family of Tupac Shakur has been waiting for justice,” at the news conference.
“The investigation started on the night of September 7th, 1996. It is far from over. It has taken countless hours, really decades, of work by the men and women of our homicide section to get to where we are today.”
