A video enhanced by The Washington Post shows a shadowy figure sprinting across a rooftop just after Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a public event at Utah Valley University. The rooftop belongs to the Losee Center, which overlooks the location where Kirk was speaking.

The person is dressed in dark clothing and appears to be moving away from the direction of the gunfire. The footage was shot by a student, who said they heard the shot and then saw people begin to run in panic. The video shows the figure for a brief moment—about two seconds—before they go out of frame.

Details From the Video Before Charlie Kirk and His SHOOTING

  • The rooftop in question is roughly 140–200 yards from where Kirk was speaking.
  • Through enhancement and stabilization, observers say the figure looks like someone fleeing—not simply ducking for cover.
  • Another related video, claimed to be from before the shooting, shows a dark shape already on that same roof, possibly lying prone or waiting. One bystander in the earlier video points toward the roof and says, “There’s somebody on the roof right there… just ran from … over there.”
  • Law enforcement has confirmed that a shot seems to have been fired from the direction of the Losee Center rooftop, consistent with what is seen in the video. The Utah Department of Public Safety described it as a “longer-distance shot from a roof.”

What Is Clear vs. What’s Not About Charlie Kirk’s Death

This is what appears likely:

  • The rooftop acted as a possible vantage point for the shooter.
  • The figure seen in dark clothing may be related to the shooter, though that is not officially confirmed.
  • The video helps corroborate witness accounts and law enforcement statements about the origin of the shot.

What remains uncertain:

  • The identity of the person seen on the roof has not been determined.
  • It’s not confirmed if that rooftop figure is the shooter, a bystander, or someone trying to help.
  • Details about the weapon used, trajectory, and exact timing are still under investigation.
  • No charges have yet been filed against any suspect shown in roof-roof videos.

Official Statements & Investigation

Authorities have acknowledged surveillance video and witness input. It shows a person on a rooftop consistent with the positioning required to fire toward the event stage. Press conferences from Utah’s Department of Public Safety say the shot was fired from a roof and that the person of interest was wearing dark clothing.

However, they have emphasized that no suspect has been tied conclusively to those videos. Official investigators are still working through CCTV, video from attendees, forensic trajectory analysis, and interviewing potential witnesses.

Why This Matters

  • The video adds important context to how the attack was carried out, possibly shifting perceptions of how planned or opportunistic it was.
  • It raises serious questions about event security and rooftop surveillance at public venues.
  • The existence of video evidence may expedite the identification, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible.
  • It also brings up concerns over how quickly such footage circulates online, its reliability, and how it can be used responsibly in journalism and investigations.
