“Where Is Wendy Williams?” is a documentary filmed by Lifetime between August 2022 and April 2023, depicting a troubled period in Wendy Williams’ life. The film captures her struggles with alcohol addiction and health issues following the cancellation of her talk show. Filmed amidst a court-ordered guardianship, it reveals the concerns and heartbreak experienced by Williams’ family. This includes her sister Wanda and niece Alex, who were unaware of her new diagnosis at the time.

Wendy Williams’ Diagnosis

Just before the release of the first part of the documentary, Wendy Williams’ care team announced her diagnosis of progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Williams’ family expressed being kept unaware of the diagnosis. They claimed limited contact with her since her legal guardianship in May 2022. She has been undergoing treatment in a facility since April 2023, with limited communication abilities. On the day of the diagnosis announcement, Williams’ guardian filed a lawsuit against A&E Television Networks, the parent company of Lifetime. They were seeking to stop the release of the documentary.

The Lawsuit Failed

After an appeals court denied the effort to halt the release of the documentary, Lifetime confirmed that “Where Is Wendy Williams?” would air as scheduled. She expressed gratitude for the support she received after sharing her diagnosis. Wendy then stated that the overwhelming response reminded her of the power of unity and compassion. She emphasized the importance of personal space and peace for her well-being. The documentary consists of four hour-long episodes airing over two nights, promising to reveal significant revelations about Wendy Williams’ life.

What Is “Where Is Wendy William?” About?

In the first episode of the documentary, Williams openly admits her fondness for vodka, despite her sister Wanda disapproving of her alcohol consumption, and her son Kevin Hunter Jr. expressing dislike for liquor. Scenes filmed in August 2022 depict Williams appearing intoxicated, prompting her admission to a wellness facility a month later.

After a two-month stay at a wellness facility, she resumes filming for the documentary. During one scene, she is shown a clip of herself intoxicated, prompting tears. However, she later reveals that her tears are due to dissatisfaction with her outfit and wig choices. In the second episode, Wendy’s manager and jeweler, Will Selby, discovers a mostly empty vodka bottle in her home and questions her about it. Williams responds with hostility, indicating her struggle with alcohol. Selby acknowledges his need for help, expressing his inability to handle the situation alone.
