Why Is Ann Wilson Performing in a Wheelchair?

Ann Wilson, the lead singer of Heart, has been performing while seated in a wheelchair during the band’s “Royal Flush” tour.
Fans were concerned, and Ann has shared the reasons behind it on her podcast, After Dinner Thinks with Ann Wilson.
“It’s Not About Cancer”
While some fans feared Ann was still dealing with cancer, she quickly cleared up any confusion. “It’s not about cancer,” she said.
Ann had surgery and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer in 2024. She is now cancer-free.

The reason for her wheelchair is an injury she suffered before the tour.
Ann explained that she “missed a step” and fell, injuring her elbow in three places. She had to have the elbow pinned back together with screws. This injury left her unable to fully use her left arm.
The Struggles of Performing With One Arm
Because of her injury, Ann shared that she has “no use of my left arm right now,” which makes it difficult to sing and perform. She also explained that the pain from her injury is too much for her to stand and sing for long periods, so she chose to sit in the wheelchair during performances. This helps her focus on singing without worrying about balance or falling. “It’s just easier for me,” she said. She also added that the pain level is still too high for her to take her arm out of the sling.
Fans’ Reactions to Ann
Some fans were disappointed to see Ann performing from a wheelchair, but she made it clear that she doesn’t see it as a sign of weakness. She explained that people often bring negativity to the situation, but for her, the wheelchair is just a practical tool to help her perform. She added that she’ll be out of it soon, but for now, it allows her to focus on what she does best—singing.
Ann’s Health Journey: Overcoming Challenges
Ann’s health has had some challenges in recent years. She has had knee surgeries, battled cancer, and now dealt with the elbow injury. Despite this, she remains positive and continues to push through, even when things are difficult. She joked, “This is number three. First, I had my knees done, then I had cancer, now I have the elbow.” She is determined to keep going and finish the tour.

What’s Next for 2025?
