Kanye West, the controversial artist who legally became known as Ye in 2021, has once again modified his official name, this time to Ye Ye, according to newly filed documents in California.

What the Paperwork Says

Court filings show that Kanye’s CFO submitted a “Statement of Information” for Ox Paha Inc., one of the rapper’s holding companies, listing him as “Ye Ye” instead of “Ye West.” The change is also reflected in filings for Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label LLC, and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc. Despite the legal shift, Ye has not formally announced the update on social media.

Why “Ye Ye” This Time?

Ye first dropped “Kanye West” in 2021—opting for “Ye” reportedly due to personal reasons and a long-standing preference. Industry observers suggest that “Ye Ye” may be an extension of this rebranding started years ago, but Ye himself hasn’t explained the reasoning behind the double name change.

Fan Reactions: Confusion & Sass

On Reddit’s r/Kanye, users responded with sarcasm and criticism about Ye’s ongoing identity shifts:

“He changed the name his mother gave him, the woman he supposedly cherishes, to appease his ego. Known as ye.”
“Bro, mental health problems can literally lead people to delusions of being god.”

These comments reflect growing skepticism toward Ye’s public transformations.

Social Media Stir

Last month, Ye threatened to create a new X (formerly Twitter) account simply named “ye,” expressing his frustration over still being linked to “@kanyewest” despite previously embracing the “Ye” persona. This persistence was highlighted when he abruptly left a Piers Morgan interview after being referred to as “Kanye West.”

Broader Context: Identity & Branding in Flux With Ye Ye

Ye’s repeated name changes are more than personal whims—they signal his evolving relationship with fame, power, and self-representation. By shedding names linked to his past, he seeks control over his public narrative and artistic legacy. But frequent alterations can also alienate fans and fuel public confusion.

What’s Next?

  • Corporate Compliance: Major business entities tied to Ye must now update legal forms, trademarks, and financial documents.
  • Public Reaction: Will fans embrace the new name, or will this spark another backlash?
  • Media Coverage: With little explanation from Ye himself, analysts will watch for signs that this is a genuine transformation or simply another provocative act in his ongoing media saga.
