Linda Ronstadt Will Be Represented by Selena Gomez in a New Biopic

Selena Gomez is set to take on the role of 11-time Grammy winner Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming feature film. The project is currently in development under the production of James Keach and Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan. While a director and additional cast members have yet to be disclosed, and there is currently no confirmed distributor for the film, the news was officially shared on Ronstadt’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. The accompanying message, “It all started with a simple dream,” hints at the passion and inspiration behind the upcoming cinematic portrayal. Notably, both Ronstadt and Gomez, who share Mexican descent, had a prior meeting at Ronstadt’s residence to discuss the project. This was mentioned on Boylan’s company, Great Eastern Music’s website.

Selena Gomez previously hinted at her involvement in the Linda Ronstadt film. She did so by sharing a photo of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, “Simple Dreams,” on her Instagram Stories. The memoir shares its name with Ronstadt’s 1977 triple-platinum-certified album. The film project is associated with James Keach. He previously directed the 2019 documentary “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.

Selena Gomez entered show business in 2001 with a role as Gianna on the children’s program Barney & Friends. After a two-year stint, she pursued other opportunities. She secured a small role in the movie “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over” in 2003 and a bit part as Julie in “Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire” in 2005. In 2006, she took on the role of Emily Grace Garcia in “Brain Zapped” and recorded a song for the show. Despite initial challenges, these early experiences marked the beginning of Gomez’s career in the entertainment industry.

Gomez continued her voice acting in 2012 by portraying Mavis in the animated film “Hotel Transylvania.” She reprised the role in the film’s sequels released in 2015, 2018, and 2022.

After a hiatus from the big screen, Selena Gomez made a return in 2019 with a role in Jim Jarmusch’s zombie comedy, “The Dead Don’t Die.” In the following year, she lent her voice to the character Betsy the giraffe in Robert Downey Jr.’s film “Dolittle.” However, her most notable recent success is her role as Mabel Mora in the Hulu comedy series “Only Murders In The Building.” Currently in its third season, Gomez stars alongside Steven Martin and Martin Short as true crime enthusiasts attempting to solve a murder in their New York City Upper West Side building.
