The cat’s out of the bag for this kitty! Doja Cat made history with her iconic performance at the Oscars alongside Lisa and Raye.

However, while at first glance the performance was nothing short of amazing, people are questioning her singing abilities. How bad can it actually get?

Doja Cat’s Oscars 2025 Performance Met With Criticism

At the 97th Academy Awards on March 5, three female singers paid tribute to James Bond songs: Lalisa Manoban (LISA of Blackpink) performed “Live and Let Die,” Raye sang “Skyfall,” and Doja Cat performed “Diamonds Are Forever.” The singer quickly trended on X (formerly Twitter), with a mix of positive reactions and harsh critiques of the 29-year-old rapper.

Some critics felt the song was too challenging for her or not a good fit for her vocal range. One user wrote, “Doja Cat is a great idea for a Bond tribute but having her sing Shirley Bassey is a losing game,” while another added, “she does not have the vocal range to do that song justice.

Other fans were even more critical, harshly criticizing her performance. One viewer wrote, “Doja Cat that was actually a horrible vocal performance what the fck were you thinking,” while another shared an expletive-laden GIF from The White Lotus to express their displeasure.

Positive Opinions Were Present As Well

Despite the criticism, some reactions were positive. One fan wrote, “Doja Cat is KILLING this cover of Diamonds Are Forever – and the dress is FLAWLESS. #Oscars2025,” while another said, “DOJA CAT DOING DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER IS PERFECT.” One user seemed to enjoy the discourse around the performance, sharing a well-placed GIF to express their thoughts.

Several users felt Raye was the standout performer, with one writing, “They could’ve just had Raye do the whole thing.”

Not the First Criticism She Has Received

Her latest issue was actually concerning her hair. Doja Cat’s most recent album cover featured a close-up of her bleach-blonde 4C curls. During a livestream, she responded to harsh criticism of her hair, pointing out that some commenters were cruelly asking if her hair was “pubic hair,” “carpet,” or “sheep’s wool.

She urged, “Really? We gotta move forward. Let’s move forward. Let’s grow. Let’s stop.” After turning off comments on her Instagram post, many of her fans defended her against racist remarks on other platforms, such as X.
